I dont have the time for gaming like I used to and I've always owned 2 of the 3 major consoles every generation and in the past when I had endless time it was great. Life is just too busy these days and will be for years to come so I'm considering just selling off probably my PS4 and sticking to my switch.

I'll probably also only get one of the next generation consoles at least during the generation and pick up a 2nd towards the end when it and all the games are way cheaper.

Honestly I had 200+ games for my PS2 and stuff but now I've got... like 8 for my PS4 and I pride myself on only really buying stuff I KNOW I'll play but even then it doesnt feel worth it to own more than 1....

Being a parent I honestly love the switch because I game at night only and laying in bed and playing is a dream >_> sooo ya...

I'm just torn because Metal Gear Solid & Resident Evil are 2 of my absolute favorite franchises and I wont get that fix on the Switch... I hate exclusives but they do work for taking my money.

Never thought it would feel good to still enjoy this hobby yet admit that ignoring a few beloved franchises feels good because I actually get anxiety if I have a backlog lol

I'm playing mostly cuphead and Celeste right now and I know pokemon sword and shield will be what I play from release into next year along side the 2D mode of DQXI so the only PS4 exclusive I even want I probably wouldn't get to anyways (death stranding).

Anyone else done this ? Any regrets?

Maybe next generation. I don't have much going for PS4 aside from an established collection and like, God of War. Not going to have less than PC and Nintendo as long as Nintendo has Nintendo games, though.

I usually buy the Nintendo console within about a year of launch and then the Sony console many years later.

The last major console I skipped was the original Xbox, and even then I had a few backwards compatible games I played on 360.

@LadyVyxx

Nobody on this website has given a crap about playing a video game after 2005.

They stick at re-watching and ranting about politics and Survivor 24/7.

Where have you been?

The Switch and PS4 aren't the same generation though!

I ended up with only a PS4 because I had no interest in an XBone or WiiU. I usually just buy consoles when there are games I want to play on it, which is often not for a year or two after release

edit: oh I guess they are considered the same generation. But why???

I can't think of a single generation of consoles I have ever had more than one of the consoles. I have had both handhelds in a generation before, but not consoles.

I usually get a 2nd towards the end of the generation when it's a lot cheaper.

I've never had multiple consoles per generation. In fact, some generations, I've been lucky to have one at all. I haven't bought anything since the 360.

Truth is, console gaming is expensive. You pay over 200 for hardware, shell out for additional peripherals like controllers, and then pay 60/game. Sure, a computer isn't free, either, but I'm going to own a computer anyway, and I can find craptons of things on Steam that are worth playing for under 10 bucks a pop -- especially when summer or winter sales are going.

While I'd like to own a console, and a lot of the exclusive games, particularly from Nintendo, would be nice to own, I can't justify blowing that kind of cash.

Had more than one for the last three generations.

PS2/GC, PS3/Wii, PS4/Switch

I find there's always something on the Nintendo consoles to draw me, but in all three cases I bought them significantly later than the Playstation.

do whatever you want!

i hold the faith that previous gen (or previous previous gen) consoles and exclusive games will be generally be available on the cheap, no need to rush into it now.

that being said, i personally haven't ever pawned off a console/game, but everyone i know that has has regretted it. maybe it's just a psychological thing.

in retrospect, maybe i should have, because a decent percentage of my dreamcast discs just don't work anymore, and most of my old consoles made jet engine noises the last time i turned them on

might be different in the era of digital libraries as well- you can always come back on a new physical device

to answer the actual question, i'm a cheap ass gamer.

pretty much always wait for at least one price drop to buy my first console of the generation, and wait years and years before buying a second for dirt cheap. it's a good system. the games will still be there later, if i'm even still interested

I wound up getting a 360 because all of my friends owned one and it was well worth it.

I buy as many as I need to play all the exclusives. Much as I loathe the idea of exclusives they've kind of got me trapped.

Thankfully since Microsoft has decided they're fine with everything going to PC as well, that means I only needed two consoles this generation, and the next gen will likely be the same.

Wii/PS3 was the only gen I multi-consoled

currently funding all the Switch games I want is troublesome enough, though I'm also satisfied by whichever PS4/Xbone games come on PC

technically my family (brother) owns an Xbone but it hasn't at all been touched in years... he even moved out like a year ago and it's still just sitting in the livingroom here
