Why do we need advertising for this? Trying to get the studentry to do STEM makes it feel like were teaching STEM people are better people and better for society than non-STEM people.

The egos of STEM majors when I left undergrad four years ago were high, cant imagine what they are now.

Pretty much. No one's keeping women from enrolling in those majors.

I really don't like the huge push for STEM overall. I mean, it's fine to encourage people to consider it as an option when they may have prematurely written it off or not even considered it. But it feels like it's more than that. Like with the "you have to go to college, or you're a loser!" mentality, people are getting the impression that STEM is the only way to get a good-paying job.
When the reality is, a STEM degree is no guarantee you'll get a good job, many STEM grads end up doing work unrelated to their field of study (like w/ any major), and...there's only so many "STEM jobs" available.
The "we don't have enough STEM employees" stuff is mostly overblown bs from the big tech companies, who try to use it as an excuse to expand H1-B visas, so they can hire foreign workers at a fraction of the cost, and depress wages of the tech industry overall. Of course, shoveling in tons of new Americans, who don't really want to work in tech but are only there b/c they think it's the only route to a good job, to compete with the other tech workers for the pool of jobs that haven't already been siphoned off to H1-B serves those companies' aims as well.

If you actually like math and science and want to study a field related to it, go for it! If not...you can major in other things (or even *gasp* learn a trade and not go to college at all!) and still do fine.

STEM is just an US way of saying "Sciences" right?

Yeah, we have no shortage of those here, we need more people with proper trade schooling.

Trade school careers are a great path for a lot of people

But how many of those jobs are gonna be reduced by automation over the next decade

Stem is saturated anyway depending on the field and where you live. I know there are a lot of stem jobs near me paying piss wages and no benefits.

Mine isn't saturated but they pay diddly shit.l
Just no demand here.

I see people (women) online complaining how there's not enough women getting into the STEM fields. But as long as I could remember in school and locally, people have tried, both to boost the economy in hopes to bring in new jobs/companies and "bring balance to the force"

If they're not interested, they are not going to join. Companies offer financial incentives and special initiatives just for females to no avail, yet people still scream sexism and they're not trying

I guess my STEM experience differs from most here.

I got into STEM completely by accident. I had a job after my first semester and it paid off the rest of my degree. I've been in and out of my field over the last 10 years and I never stop getting calls for work.

Like anything else, I'm sure it depends on what industries exist where you are. Your best bet is to see what the local community college teaches in the area you live in - they usually only have degrees for what is short-staffed locally or qualifies you for employment in the major industries in your area.

I have it on good authority that 45% of CEOs are Norman Osborn and 28% are Lex Luthor, with only a paltry 12% and 4% being Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne respectively.

no. Statistically and based on a vague pseudoscience list they're more likely to fit the profile. Meaning if 1% or less then the general population fit the profile of a psychopath somewhere between 5-25 % might be maybe if we go by conjecture.

Basically that's all bullshit.
