Florida says it's "Open Season" for residents after they are urging EVERYONE to KILL IGUANAS ON SIGHT as they are described as "invasive reptiles"

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission say people should EXTERMINATE the iguanas at any means necessary but doesn't say how they should rid of them.

They said "Homeowners do not need a permit to kill iguanas on their own property as the FWC encourages homeowners to kill green iguanas on their own property whenever possible"

They said female iguanas can lay nearly 80 eggs a year and the warm climate makes it perfect for the prehistoric looking animals where they are native in Central America

They said they cause damage to infrastructure by digging burrows that erode and collapse sidewalks, foundations, seawalls, berms and canal banks. They can also transmit salmonella bacteria through contact with water or surfaces from their feces

Like other non native species, these iguanas were brought as pets or ships as the Burmese Python is also wrecking havoc on the state.

Iguanas are kept as pets but arent protected by any law except anti-cruelty to animals

Some people are resorting to even STOMPING the iguanas to kill them while others are using other weapons such as guns to kill them. Iguana owners are encouraged to surrender them to the agency if they don't want them sot hey can give them to people who will adopt

Nope. Chances are if they are doing no harm I leave animals to do whatever they please. if they are being a pest then catching them and setting them free would be much more helpful.

I wouldn't stomp on one, that's too cruel imo. But I would shoot some. They're pests and they're destroying the state, they need to be gone and it's too hard and expensive to rou d em all up and take them somewhere they can live properly.

Ugh I lived in Florida when I was in high school. Iguanas were every where there was this one big one that was a massive dick. When it hit you with it's tail it was like being hit with a steel cord. I was happy when it disappeared after hurricane Francis.

There's nothing wrong with killing them humanely within realistic reason. They are pests.

Theres not enough room for all the iguanas in florida to put them in a sanctuary nor the resources to feed them. They breed like rabbits and are destructive to the environment.

Heck I wouldnt have the heart to kill them but it seems like the only answer.

I'd kill them humanely. I'm not a fan of invasive animals. They put the ecosystem out of whack.

lol I didn't even notice this post.

Do you know how big iguanas get? 6 feet long. Do you know how many iguanas there are in Florida?

No one is putting all of them in a sanctuary that is absolutely insane to even suggest.

What they need to do is release a bunch of ferrets into the wild to eat the iguanas. My ferret killed my iguana when I was a kid.

Duckbear doesn't care about stomping iguanas but he cries when you stomp a bug, double standards much
