"Lowest unemployment in X" is kind of a meaningless stat, when you realize that unemployment stats generally only count people collecting unemployment, which means anyone who has been unemployed long enough to stop being eligible for unemployment no longer exist according to the statistics.

That's actually a common misconception. In reality, it's apparently done by survey.

Unless it works differently for some of these alternative media and they choose to rely on something else.

This is cringed than that time that AOC said the unemployment rate is so low because almost everyone has two jobs.

the most commonly cited unemployment number is U-3 unemployment, which explicitly excludes discouraged workers, you absolute rube.

It is funny that it was a fudge stat when unemployment was low under Obama, but now that stat is just fine. The same report still not including people no longer looking for work.

Unemployment stat doesn't matter if the jobs all pay like crap though.

...the U3 is a BLS statistic literally gathered the way I just said. Something like the U6 counts *underemployment*, which matters more if you're specifically trying to argue that employment is a meaningless statistic. However, I'm not entirely sure whether something like the U6 would be able to track people who were switched from unemployment/welfare to disability under Bill Clinton (which was how he "solved" unemployment)

Almost as funny as when it was good under Obama, but questionable under GWB, right?

Can we all just agree that the job scene freaking sucks, and has sucked, under both Obama and Trump and move the heck on.

If you don't think the job scene sucks, you are either A: Very lucky, B: Have a very select group of friends and wealthy family, C: Are delusional or D: All of the above.

I don't really recall that argument back then, but unemployment went to shit under Bush, and it made great gains under Obama, but the rhetoric from the right was always that it was not a real stat because it didn't include people not looking for work (retired and other). I just find the hypocrisy funny.

The situation has always been what it was, excluding under Clinton but that's mostly because he moved people from welfare and unemployment onto disability.
