I've seen a lot of people doing this now and it's so confusing

So..they make or receive a call, put it on speaker phone and then hold it in front of their face and talk into it. But they're not doing other stuff with their hands, or sharing the call with anyone else, the two main reasons that speaker phone is useful.

I understand it for video calls but for normal phone calls...why? I feel like I'm missing something obvious

My housemate does this all the time so I asked her, and she said she didn't know why she does it(!)

I fucking hate it when I see this. Speak into the mic or use the headphones that came with the phone. If the headphones get lost you can replace them anywhere from the gas station to the mall.

Some bitch did this for 30 minutes while I was in my doctor's waiting room.

It's just speakerphone posture.

People don't want to hold the phone up to their ear.

I think it's unnecessary and dumb to hold it right next to your mouth like that, but whatever.

Isn't everyone's mic on the bottom of their phone?

You don't have to have your mouth almost touching the mic anyway, works just fine holding it normally

I never actually put much thought into this. I thought they were using the WhatsApp voice message thing. Or using voice recognition for some hard to type language like Chinese Korean and Japanese. I noticed more people do this in Asia when I was visiting. But it could just be because those were big cities so more people.

i know but the point is that reduces the slouching and neck pain when you tilt your neck and then you hold the phone on your ear

I primarily use speaker phone just because Im lazy and dont want to hold it up to my ear. If Im not alone or in public Ill use it normally though.
