This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

if Yuffie can get away with being a Low Midcarder then so can Rikku IMO. People have a serious nostalgia for FFX babes, and even though we're all old now and Rikku has remained 15 for some reason we just can't let go

Catherine is probably high fodder based solely on game/name recognition and TJF. she's got a re-release coming so I'm basing this off of that. the game has a dedicated cult following that would show up to support her. if she didn't have that re-release she'd probably be mid.

Ariana Grande as a FF character

It got significant attention and may have some joke appeal so I'll say high fodder.

Rikku was generally a low midcarder so I'll keep her there.

Agree with Zen on Low Midcarder for Rikku and High Fodder for Catherine.

Dangerous Ariana is, essentially, Ariana Grande. I don't think there are enough people on Gfaqs that actually like her, so I say Low Fodder.

ok I'm gonna say low fodder for literally Ariana Grande because I can't find any real artwork for her so match pic wise she'd just be a confusing bunny girl sprite so if you're not in on the meme I don't think you'd go "oh man ariana grande" and even if you did recognize her you'd probably be like "ugh ariana grande"

Rikku: I'm actually going to go a notch further than anyone else and say she's a solid Midcarder. Well-liked FF girls are eternal on GameFAQs, and Rikku herself has never really looked weaker than Yuna (who I would probably say is a Midcarder); she's merely had a harder time actually making contests.

Catherine: She looked like High Fodder in 2013; with the eternal one-up of anime-styled TJF on GameFAQs combined with some actual recent relevance, I see no reason for that to change.

Dangerous Ariana: Low Fodder, but I don't really know.
