This. The easiest way to avoid turning into a worthless sack of shit is to get up at a normal hour every morning and exercise. Just that level of routine and discipline prevents a full slide into uselessness.

I was on unemployment for about 7 months after the Army.I loved it,worst part is I went through like 2 Gov. Shutdowns. The whole "will I get paid on time" thing week to week became too stressful....I would retire right now if i could.

I wake up with my gf at 5:30 to make coffee for us

Unfortunately I can no longer work out before work at 6am because the commute back from the gym is a nightmare (didn't have to do it when I drove to work right after)

I need the gym for bench, squat, and deadlift.

I can get by with my running routine and accessory work with the clubhouse gym

So two days a week I will spend at the gym, making a 30 minute commute each way

You can make your routine going to the gym at some time when the traffic isn't terrible (e.g. 10am or something). The important part is the routine and structure, not specifically the exact time.

When i was unemployed in February after being with the company for 8 years I found it very stressful as time went by. I was very fortunate that I was only unemployed for 4 weeks and during that time still being paid my severance.

Like others have said, get into a routine and stick with it like its a job. The structure helped me to not lose my mind. You may find if you have too many distractions at home to go park yourself at a Starbucks or Panera Bread and work from there. I was very tempted early on to just work for 2 hours and then play video games for an hour which wouldnt have helped my situation.

Chin up! Finding a job is all about the numbers game.

It's actually refreshing to hear that aren't enjoying the unemployed life. It usually takes people a week or 2 before they are sick of it.

Job hunting can really suck. Keep your chin up and keep at it.

Honestly living with my girlfriend is a huge factor.

When I was younger I was living at home with my parents, so there was no real risk of financial ruin.

Now that I'm paying rent and living with my girlfriend, and I see how upset she is about how our relationship could suffer, it's motivating as shit to bounce back.

re-locate if you have to. dont let that be a barrier to your financial security. be open to opportunity if you can and just work it out.

the re-location is temporary. get the work and the experience then after a year or more, apply to jobs you want back home. if not available, keep applying to other places and go lateral if it gets you closer to home. definitely consider re-location if you got chances for higher pay and job stability.

jobs just arent near you. i hear that. give some time and in the meanwhile, be productive and gain experience elsewhere. focus on where you are now, gain knowledge and skill to rise. always be prepared cause you never know what happens and develop good habits as previous post said.

change is tough. with the right attitude, consistency, time and effort you can benefit from it. maybe not now but in the near future. always keep yourself open.

good luck

Not that big a deal. Don't automatically close the door to relocation. Crunch some numbers and see what kind of salary would make it worth your while to relocate, then ask for it. And ask how much financial and logistical support the company will provide. If you're lucky, you could double or triple your salary.

You should definitely spend any downtime not looking for a job or working out cleaning the house and cooking (or learning to cook?) for your girlfriend.

You want her bragging to her friends about how amazing it is that you're not working, and not how awful it is.

I have a few recommendations:
1. Work 8 hours a day at finding a new job. Basically, finding a job and developing skills is your job.
2. Make sure to get dressed, shower, do chores, etc. like you normally would.
3. If you live with somebody else, carve out some time to do nice things for them like cook.
4. When done for the day, be done for the day. Anything past 8 hours is counter productive.
5. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't let the stress control you.

Good luck!

Yeah, create some structure for yourself and it's a lot easier. Even if everything that you're doing isn't necessarily productive, at least create some sort of schedule. It makes it a lot easier imo.

That's not really NEET that's more or a less a normal process everyone goes through after graduation. 2 weeks is nothing. You need to get some hobbies.

NEET means not in employment, education, or training so by definition I technically am one. Im doing calisthenics and procrastinating on writing a novel so thats something I guess. And Ive been applying to jobs since April, so it really is getting demoralizing now

Yeah that's what it literally means but that's not what people are referring to when they call someone a NEET. NEET is more of an attitude or lifestyle...you're a new grad (2 weeks for fuck's sake) looking for a job.
