You are going to look back at this once you're in the grind and be kicking yourself for not enjoying the last taste of freedom you'll ever have

you need to get into a routine or you'll go nuts, it takes years to adjust to the depression

Fixed that for ya, and even when you've adjusted there will still be days you don't want to get out of bed or wishing you didn't have to try anymore.

clear, aren't you a coder? Work on a pet project

I'm a mech engineer with CAD experience, I got like surface level knowledge of coding (mostly python). Not enough to compete with comp sci coders.

You should definitely spend any downtime not looking for a job or working out cleaning the house and cooking (or learning to cook?) for your girlfriend.

You want her bragging to her friends about how amazing it is that you're not working, and not how awful it is.

Yeah I've been taking over dinners (I've always been the main cook but now I'm having it ready when she gets back), and cleaning up after my messes. I feel like Michael Keaton in Mr Mom

I have a few recommendations:
1. Work 8 hours a day at finding a new job. Basically, finding a job and developing skills is your job.
2. Make sure to get dressed, shower, do chores, etc. like you normally would.
3. If you live with somebody else, carve out some time to do nice things for them like cook.
4. When done for the day, be done for the day. Anything past 8 hours is counter productive.
5. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't let the stress control you.

Good luck!

This is all great advice which I appreciate. Right now I have 3-4 ideas on how to move forward that I'm taking action on, and my biggest fear is having paralysis before actually executing them. It takes a conscious effort to carry out shit sometimes, like any jackass can say "I'm gonna get in shape," but it takes balls to actually go outside and run.

TC one of the important things is to think about why you got fired and how you can avoid it next time, as well as how you are going to explain this in interviews. Use some of your free time to think about this.

I know a guy with multiple felony convictions. He just got fired last month thanks to a pathetic co-worker revealing his record to his employer. He found another job within 10 days. The only time he's been jobless is when he's in jail. I wonder what everyone's excuse is these days.

Not everyone is looking for minimum wage laboring jobs?

He was making around $800 per week at his last job. The new one is maybe a tad less. There are manufacturing jobs in the midwest starting people off at $16-$18 per hour due to labor shortages.

Right...no job where you're making any money will hire you without even doing a criminal background check

This guy is shoveling horseshit for minimum wage for 80 hours a week

Manufacturing usually just drug tests you upon hire. Most of them don't background check.

I enjoy his gimmick.

But he is right though. It's really unusual a company would hire without completing the background check.

Just emailed my (former) boss if he would be willing to sign off on my work experience so I can apply to become a project management professional, I need his consent in case I am audited.

Feels weird being like "hey man I know you just fired me but can you help me out?"

He's a fair dude for what it's worth, I think he will go for it, otherwise I have officially wasted the last three years of my life

In my experience engineering is not a golden ticket, I am still competing with a large pool of talented workers.

You finally left that toxic job? Nice.

Job hunting sucks but hopefully your work experience can help you land another one quickly. Good luck man.

He got fired. So yeah its great he left his toxic work environment but he didnt do it out of his own volition despite complaining about it so much here. Hopefully he transitions into a job where hes happier.

Out of curiosity, why'd you get fired?

tl;dr worked well for 2.5 years, boss gave me a >15% raise, a $30,000 retention bonus if I continued working for three additional years, and a letter of commendation. Then he hired an engineer that used to work at Palm in the past to serve as my manager, he asks if I'm very religious, I say "not really," he replies "I'm super religious." Three weeks into him getting hired I start receiving reprimands so I work harder. Continue to receive reprimands, I work even harder, document all my work, maintain great relationships with everyone else including customers.

Monday my boss sits me down and says it's not working out and fires me.

I am not lying when I say I did in fact work harder than I had in the past, and my boss did enjoy having me around before then (I have a signed letter stating as such), I do not know if my manager legitimately disliked me for my answer to his religion question or thought I was an entitled dickhead that didn't work hard or both. Honestly I completed all of my work, I just didn't do it with a chipper smile 24/7, I can't fake that "we're one big family!" enthusiasm.

One thing that rubbed me the wrong way about my manager is that when dealing with a vendor of ours he complained to me that the guy over the phone didn't sound excited/chipper enough to talk to him, I can't fucking deal with that smarmy shit.

Alright it's been two hours since I emailed my boss and I am fairly confident the dude is going to ghost me since he has in the past.

If he does I'd be pretty fucking upset to be honest, that means I couldn't become a PM for at least another three years.
