You can ask if youre under arrest or being detained. If they have nothing to keep you on, you can peace out.
However, they still have a nasty habit of murdering people regardless and not facing any consequences, so your mileage may vary.

This, but not belligerently because of "disorderly conduct."

Cops are terrifying, and they shouldn't be. Unless you're a criminal, you should be at peace and at ease when you see one around. Media has made us scared of them. Is it for good reason? Are they all bloodthirsty, trigger happy psychos, or is that just how they are perceived because of incidents that are rare (in the grand scheme of things) get blown up by the media?

Do they keep a database of every time they run your ID, so even if you never get charged for anything, you still have some mark like "too many contacts with the police"?

Like if you are stopped by police for nothing and always let go with no ticket or fine or anything, after checking your ID, 1-3 times every week?

I read a comment by someone, but they may be full of shit.

Well a lot of misinformation and a lot of just ridiculous things in this topic

What you describe in that topic title is a consensual stop. You are free to leave you can tell that cop fuck off

There are two other things

Reasonable suspicion and probable cause. RS gives an officer an hour with you. Probable cause is basically you have committed a crime/ infraction and that officer has a legal right to detain you

It's crazy how many of you are so scared for no reason, that's part of the problem.

If you're not doing anything wrong and you're not a dick then this shouldn't be an issue. I've had plenty of cops stop me, follow me, talk to me, pull me over, all types of shit and if you act like an adult then there's not an issue. More people need to realize that.

There's a reason cops (and people in general) find sovereign citizens insufferable. Never has there been an instance where the cop goes "Oh man, they know more about the law than I do! I guess you're free to go, have a nice day, sorry for the inconvenience upstanding citizen!"

Follow orders, don't be a insubordinate, take 'em to court later if you wish to do so.

"if you're not doing anything wrong" is a stupid reason to yield your rights. I hate bootlicker logic.

one being okay with their rights being routinely infringed upon is on them, but to suggest others do the same is sad and unpatriotic.

then there are the people who actually blame the media for cop hate more so than personal interactions and decades upon decades of a corrupt police culture.

I don't understand the difficulty of just talking out any confusion/misunderstanding for a minute. I'd get it if you're being harassed by cops every week/month but to have a cop want your attention for a minute shouldn't be a big deal. I literally give every person I bump into in society my ear for a couple minutes if they want it, which is a lot. Im not gonna all of a sudden get uptight just cause they're a cop. They do however give me slight anxiety even when Im not holding.

I used to want to be a cop until I saw how so many were bullies. I guess I was more influenced by honest cop shows.

But the reality led me to believe that you have to sacrifice some of your humanity to be the cop the city wants you to be. I always feel like police interactions are likely to be escalated by a cop with an ego, so I go in with a certain level of anxiety

People don't realize the big issue. Cop culture. Cops WILL NOT rat on each other no matter what, because if you do rat, other cops will make your life a living hell or you will be driven off the force.

Not all cops do fucked up shit, but all cops are complicit in letting the minority of cops get away with anything. All of them. Which makes them just as bad.

I don't have the look that they go for, so they don't. Sometimes Im in suspicious places playing Pokemon Go at 2am and they still just drive pass. Id approach this conversation different if we weren't a bunch of white boys trying to adapt the anxiety that black people should have. We should have minor anxiety at worst. We're not the ones that their dad raised them to fear.

You could try, but I wouldn't recommend it. Just be friendly and somewhat cooperative, but don't answer any unjustified, self incriminating questions or consent to any unlawful searches or seizures. Then if things are still uncertain, ask if you are being detained, and if not, if you can leave before you actually try to do so.

Eventually, somebody called the cops on me (obviously) and this cop crept up on me just as I was taking a bong rip and he fucking bumrushed me and grabbed me and handcuffed me. Smashed my bong on the ground while shouting DISRESPECTFUL PIECE OF SHIT and I was like

Put me in the cop car and took me to jail while lecturing me how disrespectful I was for smoking weed in a church parking lot. Im like, but the view..

Eventually my mom came and I got out without any sort of punishment.

Cooperating with them at least can possibly increase your chances of walking away alive though. It's sad that we have to even do a risk assessment when it comes to casual encounter with the police, but that's the kind of world we live in.
