I love how the graphics really pop!

Well what else could you expected from a $90 billion franchise (the world's highest grossing media franchise ever, more than Mario and Marvel combined)!

It looks like outsourcing the work for the models and animations of all the Pokmon to a different company to devote time to the rest of the game really paid off

Now, graphics are not everything, but when you compare Sword/Shield to BotW and Xenoblade 2, the environments really do leave a lot to be desired. Nevermind the still-stiff animations.

Has Gamefreak ever done a game this ambitious? I dont think so. But coming from a big IP AND being Nintendo, they should have at least be given some help if they couldnt handle it.

The art style and aesthetics are Gamefreak but everything else and world building is so bland.

They don't even care because Nintendo can't get on their ass because they can just take the IP to Sony as Nintendo does not own pokemon, Iwata really was the blessing of that studio, gold and silver would be much shorter than it already was if it wasn't for him and for those you who think they'll just fix it in a patch, today they stated they would do no such thing. Gamefreak 1/2 asses Pokemon because people buy it anyway and they can't make a good non-pokemon game to save their lives.

And I was more willing to accept worse graphics, because there were also 900+ Pokemon to code in, but since they don't even seem to be including non-dex Pokemon I wonder what the excuse is. I bet its still the same sprites from gen 6 where all the flying types look dumb too.

Pokemon has always confounded me. It's one of the most popular video games ever, yet the games are always low quality. It doesn't make sense.

Like, why cant they actually try on one? Like make it as high quality as a Mario or Zelda game?

Nintendo actually does have effective 66% ownership of the IP (they own a third, and Creatures owns another third, but Creatures is a subsidiary of Nintendo). Nintendo also has the rights to the Pokemon trademark. Game Freak couldn't just take the IP to Sony or Microsoft. Not unless Game Freak or the Pokemon Company were to completely buy out the IP and trademarks from Nintendo.

Yeah, they're using the same models as Gen 6, which granted, was the whole purpose of them making the models in the first place (to future-proof the series for a while), but with updated textures. Sadly, the animations are still rather poor and stiff. The excuse is to go for high-quality animations as well as them including the Dynamax mechanic, but as we're seeing now, they're not looking all that well.

The switch is a handheld with a few games that would have gone on the Wii U that are meant to be played in docked mode. Idk why people are expecting new Pokemon games to not be battery friendly.

Pokemon looked a lot better when it was 2D. The 3D world design in general is pretty bad, not to mention the 3D pokemon models are fairly shit. Like okay the 2D ones didnt move except minor jerks but at least that meant there was some artistry in how they were presented. The 3D models are just slapped together in a way that makes sense when they move about without any attempt to express their design in a way that isnt just a splattering of colours merging together.

I dont really get the outrage... maybe its just age, like you said, but the fact that theyre doing a free-control camera in an open area with rendered versions of hundreds of Pokmon actually walking around, while developing for this hardware for the first time? Man, Im good. Kind of shit I dreamed about as a kid.

Modeling and animating 807 Pokemon when the average FPS has like 15 enemy designs at the most due to animation time constraints
