It seems like a lot of people say like whatever new indie game out is suppose to be the best... at the time. Which makes sense with new games. Though, I know a lot of people still play The Binding of Isaac. And go back a lot. Which makes sense as there are a lot of items. And they use to update it all the time. Maybe they still do. Idk.

But what do you think is the best indie game?

There are countless that I love

Binding of Isaac and Spelunky and certainly withstood the test of time, but I still like La-Mulana 1 and 2, Dwarf Fortress, Transcendence, Hollow Knight, Siralim, Artifact Adventure, Ittle Dew 2, Tales of Maj'Eyal and so on.

Not sure if Grim Dawn counts as indie, I'd say not - but some might say yes, it's a big budget game - but still self-published.

For me it's Minecraft. It started as an extremely buggy sandbox, but gained massive popularity due to youtube Let's Plays, and eventually was bought by Microsoft for like $3 billion. I'm pretty sure I spent more time playing that game than any other game, and I still play it from time to time.

Yowza that's a tough one.

Probably something like To The Moon or What Remains of Edith Finch.

But I'm thinking those for their narrative, mostly. For a fun game I might go with Superhot or Hotline Miami

Despite its botched launch, I think over time No Man's Sky is the best. If you play it today, it's a much richer experience than many AAA titles.

Firewatch

It has some of the most stunning scenery I think I've ever seen in a video game, and the walkie-talkie mechanic is unique. I also like the fact that there's no HUD, if you want to look at the map or the compass, you have to actually hold up these items.

The end was so easy you could do it with one hand

But yeah I loved that it told a coherent and emotional story without a single bit of actual dialogue or text
