When I worked in a Convenience Store, I'd get dumb shit customers too.

I'd get the ones after I close up at midnight try to go through one door (ignoring the closed signs) and it's locked. Go to another door, (again ignoring the closed signs) and it is locked. Then start banging against the window while I'm counting my till and ask me if we are still open.

No, dumbass. I just put the closed signs up, turned off the lights, and locked the doors just for the hell of it!

I'm not a big fan of milkshakes and smoothies personally, but a buddy bought one and let me try it. Mint chocolate chip. It was pretty good. I'll still take a pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream any day. But considering it's a gas station milkshake, it's a solid choice for late-night munchies.

Didn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary in terms of his speech or the way he acted. He was just really stupid. May have been high. That's possible.

You'd be amazed how many aren't. There's a reason so many places reassure you that their shakes are made with real ice cream. Sure, sometimes they tell you what brand it is, but the primary message is that it's real ice cream.

Dairy Queen which is known for their Ice cream doesn't even use ice cream. They use Custard.

There's a reason its called a Custard Cone.... and not an Ice Cream Cone. Same deal with Milkshakes. Custard isn't an ingredient in this scenario, but rather the mix. Much like their sodas, its not the same as the stuff you would buy in stores. The mix allows them to make far more of it and it blends better with milk, compared to ice cream.

Give you a real world example. You order a milkshakes from both Dairy Queen and a Diner. Dairy Queen uses a mix of sugar, milk and a couple other ingredients to form a custard like consistency. It's thicker, and there is no separation.

A diner chances are will use the actual milk/ice cream and maybe vanilla in the milkshake, hence why it takes longer to blend, and isn't exactly great in most cases.

FYI, TC and everyone, a low cognitive function person will 100% act like this. My fiance works with people who have Low Cognitive Function. They aren't impaired enough to be classified as mentally handicapped, but they are what most people who call borderline.

Here's an official company video on the machine itself.

Probably dated and has been updated by now, but the concept for the basic mixing process would no doubt be the same. It adds some water, mixes the entire thing, then lowers it.

That's the block of ice. Without blending, it would be nasty. And since it adds water to melt the ice enough to blend, even if you waited till it did start to melt and blend it? Wouldn't come out well at all. Especially if it's one with fruit inside.

Doesn't matter how brain dead simple you make something, there will always be a customer moronic enough to get bewildered by it. I've lost count of how many times I've heard a customer near me at the self-check at Wal-mart complain that a machine won't take their money, I look over, and it's in "cards only" mode (whether because it ran out of money or the bill dispenser broke w/e). These things force you to acknowledge that you are fine with it being cards only mode, literally asking you out loud if you wish to continue when you start the transaction. Hell there are people who get confused by the fucking pin pads. For those of you who think self-checks will eventually replace cashiers completely, don't worry. Customers are still too stupid for the manned registers for all self-check stores to be feasible.

Your first mistake was thinking that people actually read anything in front of them.

When the customer got their 'ice cream' and doubled down on it I would have just said, "Well, okay, that isn't normal ice cream, if you wanted normal ice cream it's in that cooler over there." Of course there's a 50/50 chance they come back later saying how the ice cream in the store 'sucks' and wasn't edible.

On the issue of semantics, check out some potential ice cream you have in your freezer right now. It might not even say ice cream but instead something like "frozen dairy treat". Ice cream has a maximum amount of air that can be included, but there is no regulation on the composition of a frozen dairy treat.

I've witnessed a similar incident, albeit I was just another customer in the store when the clerk was having this kind of conversation with someone else.

In that particular case the other customer was likely drunk though, and wasn't quite grasping that their was a frozen block in the cup already that needed to be blended, rather they were baffled that the machine wasn't dispensing the milkshake into the cup, and when they *did* finally realize there was something already in the cup, they just got confused further about why the machine dropped a block of ice cream into the cup instead of giving them a milkshake.

Shit was hilarious, but I could tell the clerk just wanted to drop dead right then and there.

I've seen one of these machines at the nearby Mini-Nex and it kind of boggled my mind. I just thought the design was needlessly convoluted when they could've just made a milkshake dispenser.
