I was thinking about the theory that Fox McCloud had his legs amputated to become a fighter pilot. Would you be willing to do that? Or get a brain implant to be a better programmer? Or to have your arms and legs broken and surgically stretched to be a better basketball player? Etc.

It entirely depends on any limitations, like gaining fine motor control at the cost of absolute strength.

Depends on how cool the modification is and what it actually does, probably. It would be more appealing if I played a sport, but the sport would likely make doing it against the rules anyway.

Sounds like a terrible theory.

Not a theory. They did it in the story on purpose.

If they could find a way to make it fully reversible, then yes. But conditions would apply.

That would be something to fear... Maybe they just really wanted to be pilots...

Also, you might be able to find out if they take the genital. She if Fox was born after his dad became a pilot. If so, maybe they do keep them...

Keep mind currently in sports they have actually stood against people that had advantages from having major surgery done. One guy lost both of his legs below the knee and it actually helped him run faster, the guy had aspirations of going to the Olympics before his surgery. The Olympic committee deemed his new legs an unfair advantage and that all future Olympiads would have to undergo the same surgery to be on a level playing field they denied him.
