Time to DO things?

During phases of my life when I try to get serious about fitness, fitness IS my free time. No time for fun, hobbies, etc. if I wanted to start writing a book or something, I couldnt because I dont have time. Going to the gym, cooking/preparing healthy meals and getting the full 8 hours of sleep leaves me with nothing else. Usually Im clocking in for work about 15 seconds before being counted as late, so I really dont even have time for fitness.

Any of you more skilled with time management than I? Any tips? I suppose I could try meal prepping, but any other advice? Also getting a significant other could cut down on time I spend cooking, but giving her the attention shed demand would probably be even more time consuming.

I don't have time atm but it has more to do with the fact I'm also doing extra work on the side rather than the time I spend on fitness. I figure I have to prepare food anyway, healthy or otherwise, and I work out in my lunch break. I could do hobbies at the weekend if I wanted but I'd rather spend time with my kids. Before I started doing this extra work for example I did actually write a book and I need to edit it but it's more the mental fatigue stopping me than the lack of time.

Tips for food prep tho, plan out your meals and cook a lot at once. I typically make 3 or more portions and refrigerate leftovers.

Its insanely hard.

Especially with a toddler.

I'm up at 4:30 for work, I get home around 4:00. I try to go right from work but I can't devote more than an hour because I have obligations at home and I just have a severe lack of energy. My wife works too so I make sure to straighten up the house a bit before she gets home with our daughter.

And even after we put her to bed at around 7-7:30 theres no way I'm leaving the house again to go.

Weekends I'll get one or two days to stay longer but the weekends are then designated to doing family things anyway.

Go to sleep at 9, wake up at 4:30, go to the gym before work, get home at 5:30.

Gives me 3.5 hours each night, it's not easy.

Up at 5:45. Gym at 6. Work at 8. Sleep between 10 and 11pm. Leaves a decent amount of time for other stuff.

How much time do you spend at the gym? I've found lately that I can cut down my workouts to just around an hour each (weights only, haven't squeezed ant cardio in yet) and still get a great workout + have time in my day for other things. I generally go six days a week. If you're the type to go every other day that opens up some flexibility for other hobbies.

Also, pay attention to how much time you dick around on your phone/the Internet in general. Even if you don't think it's a lot it can add up fast. Most people could probably save an hour or more a day.

This
I invested in a bunch of free weights for home because I dick around too much when I go to a gym. It becomes social hour and a tight 60 minute workout easily balloons into 2 hours plus the travel time. There are some exercises that I can't do at home due to lack of equipment but you can still structure an okay routine.

Tuesday: 60 minutes
Wednesday: 80 minutes
Friday: 90 minutes
Saturday: 90 minutes

And then I run about 25 miles a week so that takes like an extra four hours total

Also if you're powerlifting you need at least 3 full minutes of rest between work sets otherwise you're not recovering enough.

Between warm up, work sets, and cool down I can spend 30 minutes easy on each lift

If your workouts are going longer than an hour, either cut down on repetitive exercises or take less time between sets.

At home, be mindful of phone/tv use. Those are the biggest killers of free time. Watching one 50 minute show on Netflix is about the same amount of time your workout should take. All time small twitter/instagram/Facebook breaks you take add up quickly.

I wake up at 6 work at 7 finish at 3 30 and get home at 4. I have around 7 hours before I go to sleep, should be enough time if I were serious about fitness.

I work out first thing in the morning. I got work at 5, so I wake up at 3 and head to the 24 by my work. Gives me plenty of time to work out(usually limit it to an hour), shower there, get ready afterwards and eat.

I workout before work and spend a hour max at the gym. In addition, my work has a gym and run trail, so I can workout at lunch.

I work from 9 -5,. go to the gym from about 6-7:30pm.

between Monday - Friday I go probably 3 times, which leaves plenty of time for other stuff.

so I manage to go to the gym about 3-5 times a week, which is fine for my definition of "serious about fitness".
