I get told often that I'm blunt and a couple of folk have actually said they like me for it. I just say it how I see it and have always been a down toe art type of guy. I think it's best to just be honest. Some folk however might not like that so I'm asking this.

I think you can be honest without being blunt. That's what I try to be anyway, though I don't always succeed. Like if you have a valid criticism there's usually a way to phrase it where it sounds less severe

Blunt is good to smash points across, but some people are more guarded and require a more precise strike to get through their armour.

It can be. Though, most people try not to be blunt unless they need to... Usually to spare someones feelings. Like friends and family... Or people theyre close to. And especially SOs... Being blunt to often or whatever can push people away... You can be honest without being blunt, though... To many people, being blunt can come off as rude, but being honest without being blunt is usually more helpful...

Sometimes being blunt is the more respectful to do

Some folks dont have an appreciation for bluntness though and certain subjects or situations definitely require more tact or the self control to simply bite ones tongue

Especially depending how you do it. Or again what situation. I've seen people being blunt about things while completely overlooking factors about the situation, and it usually just has come off as being kinda nasty tbh.

Not unless you're a massive prick about it... Just being to the point and honest is fine. It's sensitive people that are bad.

Being blunt is fine, but you actually have to be intelligent enough to be correct about whatever you're being blunt about.

If you're being a tactless battering ram but half of what you're saying is total bullshit, then you're just an asshole.

If a point needs to be made yes if not no. Ive seen a guy tell a girl to her face she needed to lose weight. It was his brothers gf. He had zero reason to say that shit to her he had nothing to gain and the girl wasnt by any means in the unhealthy weight category.

Where as my mom had a stroke last year and was advised to avoid stress and my brother is notorious for calling her up and bitching about thia or that and any solution she gives he finds some excuse why it wont help which stresses her.(especially since he always makes the problem out to be way worse than it really is) So yeah I called him up after her stroke and told him he needed to quit that shit asap. I was blunt and told him his drama stressed her a lot

Even when somebody is entirely right, it doesn't stop them from being an asshole. At best, it just makes them an asshole with a point.

It's situational. Being blunt can be a good thing, and then there are times when a little more finesse is probably better. There's also the fact that some people think just being a dick is being blunt. You can be straightforward without being a jerk as well.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on the context of the situation, conversation, person and your tone of voice. Some people need to hear shit straight on, whether they want to or not. Some situations call for being more gentle or polite.

That's what I do most the time. Of course in sensitive situations I have more tact about it. Although with that been said sometimes I don't think it's a big deal to say what I've said and it turns out someone found it was. I'm not a mind reader though and I just see it as banta most the time.

Exactly. At least folk know they are going to get a honest answer from me and if I do things like show affection or say I like someone I mean it and not just throw words around.

As far as I'm concerned being honest and blunt/down to earth are two of the same. On the other side of the coin I also like people more who are the same to me. I wouldn't call it being rude but I can understand how some folk may feel that way.
