Assuming a 40 hour workload what would you prefer to do in regards to work?

I voted 4 days, but I thought about it and if I could manage to fit 40 hours into 3 that would be most ideal

10 hour shifts seem doable compared to 13.33 though

4 10's is the best 40hr work week.

I'm currently doing 4 8hrs though and it's lovely.

I live out in the middle of nowhere, so it's about a 1.5 hour round trip commute. Working fewer days per week would save me a lot of commute time.

4 10's is a beautiful thing. 3 day weekends just rock.

I couldn't do 3 13.3's, though - at least in my line of work. The extra day off wouldn't justify the burnout, and there's just not enough daylight most of the year.

I like 4 10s. I used to do 5 12s and a 6.

But no more overtime. So its 4 9s and a 4.

You're really fine with pissing away 8 hours a day (not even including getting there and getting home) doing some shitty job probably getting poverty wages?

If I'm getting poverty wages, I want more hours to compensate.

The first problem is that you think all people working a 40 is doing it for poverty wages.

4 10 hour days. I used to do 4 12 hours night shifts a week and enjoyed the "long weekend" I got. What type of work would I want? Retail or Warehouse.

4 days 10 hours. I currently work, on call 24/7. I am considering taking a demotion so I can have a 4/10 schedule. Would only be about .50/hr loss. Only thing keeping me in current position is overtime and a couple of perks like mileage.

I did fourteens seven days a week in the patch. I've done up to eighteen hours in a day with only a three hour break in-between. It isn't ideal, but I got to eat that month.

I almost had the most amazing work schedule. I was trying to get a job that was 12 hour shifts. But it was an alternating thing where one week I would have 4 days on with 3 off. Then 3 days on with 4 off. It would have been fantastic. Lots of overtime pay with a mini vacation every other week. Sadly the guy that was supposed to get me in got himself fired and the recommendation of a terminated employee doesn't hold much weight.

I had an interview for a job with the same schedule, 4 days 1 week, 3 days the next. They had an "on call" system tho that everyone had to do for at least 1 week a month. It was a security call center. and my 2nd to last job was doing the same thing at a much bigger competitor of theirs. Thought I was a shoe-in but they emailed me saying they went with other candidates.

I've done (with one job) 3 12 hour days, 4 10 hour days, and 5 8 hour days (often with overtime though).

Long term, the 4 10 is the best by far of those. You don't have to take an extra lunch (or at least didn't back then), and while the days are long, it's more efficient, so you actually save some time. You get a 3 day weekend (or a break in the week) and the pay is still quite good.

The 3 12 hour days, even though it was actually less hours over all, was exhausting (as it was back to back). Need to factor in though that I also commuted an hour each way for the job. Basically left before the sun rose, and didn't head back till it had set. While I had 4 days off.....even though I was young that schedule killed me.

5 8 hour days....if the job isn't horrid/boring, work ok, but you just don't have that much free time. Every non-work day is pretty full of errands/shopping etc (at least if your taking care of a family as well), every work day you basically get home, make dinner for everyone, have a small amount of down time and then bam, go to bed and start again the next day.

Personally, even though it's significantly less money usually to work part time), I would prefer a 5 day/6 hour work week. It's only 30 hours total (6 less then the 3&12) but you can still have alot of time left to do other things. If you start work fairly early (say working as a waiter at a breakfast/lunch/dinner resteraunt), you can be done by noon or 1 pm, then still have the full day to actually do things (with plenty of daylight) AND 2 days off as well to travel or whatever.

30 hours meanwhile at $12 an hour (min wage here, $10 will be min wage everywhere, and you can get min wage jobs anywhere paying $12), is $300 a week after taxes and $1200 a month or so. That is not a ton, and you can't rent your own place everywhere like that but....you could rent a room initially, and then split rent if you find someone to date, or good friends you want to live with etc.

Doing so you would easily be able to live on that much and even save money. You would have plenty of time to go to school as well if you wanted etc (not that I would recommend that), but there are tons of AA courses that you could do for fun/entertainment or just because you want the knowledge (and they are cheap).

As more jobs become automated and there is less of a demand for menial labor etc, I hope that the full time work week will eventually change to 30 hours instead of 40. It won't matter for me, but it would be great for future generations.

I liked my last job's schedule, which was 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off, 2 on, 2 off, repeat. The 12 hour shifts sucked, but getting that many days off was amazing.

I'd probably be happiest with 4 10 hour shifts.

At almost $40/hr, yes. Otherwise no. Canada is too expensive. And now the carbon tax (which is taxed by GST) is just destroying any hope of it being affordable for many.
