At least there were plenty of boxes to soften the landing.

I'm not sure that matters at upwards of 300mph.

I'm more surprised the thing didn't blow up/catch fire once it crashed.

At upwards of 300 mph it doesn't matter to the pilot if the boxes are full of aerogel or solid lead.

Physics says it would make a difference since the aerogel would be moved by the plane much more than the lead. Physics people, learn it.

Fluid dynamics says the rapid change of speed would create a heavy wall of pressure behind the object and heavily dampen speed (like trying to throw a ball of polystyrene) so even a light object would impart large amounts of resistance against a 300 mph jet. When forces exceed failure point, additional force is irrelevant, if the polystrene pressure wall breaks the plane, it is as damaging as a lead wall.

The aerogel would move out of the way and actually absorb some the force, the lead would stay still and send all that force right back into the plane.

Physics states that if you travel through an open doorway fast enough, you would vaporise from the air pressure.

So unless another military plane crashed into a different warehouse yesterday, it looks like the pilot was ok. Apparently he was having trouble with the hydrolics and ejected, landing safely within the nearby military base. The plane however kept doing what it was going to do because, as mentioned earlier, inertia.
