It's what sells right now so I don't fault them.

But yea, I agree that there is a worrying saturation of isekais right now.

Because back in 2015 Chivalry of a Failed Knight and Asterisk War aired on the same god forsaken day, around the same time of the day, had the same exact heroine (redhead princess with control over fire) , same damn genre and they looked exactly the same. Which ended up being the final nail in the coffin for the over-saturated Battle Harem genre.

Since isekai's were gaining traction and shows like Re:zero and Konosuba proved it was extremely profitable with minimum effort, producers went ahead and pushed the genre like the opioids in a rehab center.

Pretty much, though Fate doesn't quite fit the genre in my opinion since a good portion of the Servants are male and only Saber is Emiya's servant.

Infinite Stratos, Blade Dance, Maken-ki and Sword Art Online, Rosario + Vampire and Sekirei were the epitome of the genre.

Okay but here's the real kicker. The rise of yuri also meant VN based anime fell to the wayside unless they were harem ones to begin with. Nowadays it's just easier to make the harem anime then the VN.

Also, we got screwed because now there's no seinen unless it has warfare or hentai plots minus the on screen sex (in the TV version).

The anime scene is just now feeling the ripples of isekai's, they're like a dime a dozen in manga form. Some are good most are just plain generic.

Imagine Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz, but the MC receives a power leveling boost to his stats & skills.

you forget the mc is a beta male

A couple years back when I was doing some work at a local movie theatre, this redpill weeb guy came into the team and we had a bit of a chat about anime. I was mostly getting out of anime at the time, and even when I liked it, I had different tastes to him - he held this show up as like one of the best shows he's ever seen, and it sounded like some absolute horseshit.

It's like everyone expresses these magical powers at a certain age, and everyone has different powers - with the protagonist's power being that he could slow time down to a stop and move out of the way of bullets and get the advantage on his enemies.

Is that - a generic "fantasy future warzone magic power" show where the protagonist has Gary Stu powers - an isekai show?

Isekai shows are just the ones where the MC is an average person who gets transported to a fantasy or video game world. Sometimes theyre OP, sometimes theyre underpowered and sometimes the story tries to be realistic and start them off at a normal level and have them progress at a slow rate

isekai means "another world"
In the sense that they're normal people from earth transported to another world, whether that's a reincarnation thing into a different reality/world, stuck in a video game, or whatever.

I dunno what time stop show is but it doesn't sound quite like that.

They're basically scripted "let's plays" using the most generic fantasy tropes to avoid copyrights, usually will a set of tits thrown on most characters to help boost sales. It gets so tiring trying a new show and having to sit through an MC spend several episodes learning RPG rules over and over again.

Sword Arts popularity (Why that garbage was popular in the first place who the fuck knows) caused all the shitty light novel authors in Japan to try and jump on the profit train. This combined with the fact it's an easy premise to write about resulted in shitty stories being churned out and in turn led to more of them getting adapted as anime
