When I go into somebody's house with a labrador or a golden retriever it always smells bad, more than other breeds. They're the most boring and basic dog breeds, they're the dogs people think they should buy when they haven't done any research into breeds. And you ask them what kind of dog they're gonna get, and they just shrug and say, IDK...just a normal dog. But these dogs have high energy requirements and therefore usually end up tearing up people's homes because their owners didn't do the research to find out that they need lots of exercise. So not only is the dog itself bad, but it also tends to be owned by bad owners. And most of them are awfully trained and badly behaved. Some characters are intended to be ideals or extremes, and as a result can play a narrative and thematic role that others can't. Being relatable is actually a huge detriment to that end.
