-Half was good but then kind of boring.
-Where do Atlantins poop and pee?
-Black Manta looked like a power ranger villain.
-How could he instantly modify Atlantin prototype technology?
-Too many times did they have the enemy crash the scene by blowing up a door or wall and attack.
-The colors were great under water but bad and too vibrant on land.
-You can guess the plot before watching the movie. Rather predictable.

Still good.

This.

tbh Aquaman was way better than I was expecting. It was weird because Black Manta was 100% built up to be the main villain and they went with Orm instead, and there were a lot of musical build-ups with the music behind it like every 5 minutes, but eh.

My problem is that the The Atlanteans are so old that the kingdom split up when the Sahara was still underwater. That was 7 million years ago. Which means the Atlanteans have been ****ing around doing jack-all for 7x the entire known history of anything even close to related to humans on land, already had unlimited energy, and just... did nothing with it.

That's kinda just how it is. The Kryptonians, Amazons, Lanterns, all around since prehistory yet never did anything. It's a fundamental problem with the setting and there's not really anything to explain it satisfyingly. Same deal with things like Wakanda. You're just going to have to accept "They didn't want to mingle with inferior people" as the explanation.

And the whole, he who has a better trident wins was kind of dumb.

Arthur and Mera had no chemestry. Willem was fine.

The Godzilla attacking to unite the people had no weight. Literal crab people.

To be honest I'm not entirely sure if Black Manta should have really been in the movie. He was a total chump.

Wan said he was added since he's the most iconic Aquaman villain and he felt that he had to be in the movie. The main antagonist by his own admission is Orm.

Black Manta will probably be the main antagonist of Aquaman 2. I suspect we'll probably see him kill Arthur's father.

They had to make it so that Arthur killing Black Manta's father would be painted in the most favorable light possible because 1) he's the protagonist and 2) that's actually what happens in the comics.

I get why he did it but he felt like he stepped into the wrong movie or something. He has no real contribution to the main plot despite having the entire opening sequence dedicated to him and Arthur writes off the impact to his character development in a single sentence lol. It was an odd choice.

How did he know anything about taking it apart and reassembling it? Its brand new advanced civilization technology.

Yeah everything about it is weird. He already wanted to kill Aquaman. If he got the suit before his fathers death literally nothing would change. There's not even a guarantee that he would let it go if his father was saved.

Likewise if Arthur went out of his way to kill both of them he'd definitely have no Black Manta villain to worry about. So it's not really a lesson about mercy either.

I get the Kryptonians and Lanterns don't bother, they are on different ends of the galaxy. I guess if we go comics route the Lanterns should be more present on Earth since Earth is like, the center of the DC universe and the Amazons at least have a "we've segregated ourselves from the humans because we tried it and they're the worst".

But the Atlantian idea is "we've had a utopia since even monkeys weren't developed yet" but they stay there just cause and politely watch the humans wreck their ecosystem.

I'm maybe overthinking it a little bit, but there shouldn't have been that dumb comment about how atlantians first setteld in the Sahara.

Thats literally Black Mantas character from the comics. Hes evil and petty for the sake of it. No tragic backstory. Dude is just an asshole. When Aquaman died in the comics, Manta stopped being a bad guy and had a normal life. He went back to being a villain once Aquaman returned. Its honestly refreshing. Not every villain needs complex motives.

It's weird because they spend a chunk of the movie giving him a 'tragic' style backstory. We see him bonding with his father. We see the knife being passed down. We see his father dying and the guy begging for help. We see him grieving his father. We see him not caring about the money when he's hired to kill Aquaman.

He is given the plot of a tragic villain despite not even really being a major antagonist and not being a sympathetic character anyway. It's weird. He's a pretty terrible villain in every single aspect and they're gonna have a tough time salvaging that in the sequel.

Yeah, Black Manta seems to be set up as the main villain for the next film. There arent many good Aquaman villains left anyways. King Shark definitely is not main villain material as much as I like him.

They cant really downplay or not mention Mantas backstory in a sequel as it seems thats what fueling his hatred for Aquaman. Im not so sure myself.

just got back, thought it was fun. But the script peaked early with that line about about tears and the sea lol

as for the black manta dude, how come he never went after aquaman's dad? I was sure dad would be on the chopping block, instead he's just absent from the movie till the end where he's kissing nicole kidman (who is clearly way out of his league by this point)

Wrecking the ecosystem is kind of a modern thing. There just wasn't thousands of tons of plastic trash in the ocean and trillion-gallon oil spills in the early 20th century.

It makes sense that they suddenly decide to attack now.

It was entertaining and a good film.

It honestly probably just saved the entire DC cinematic universe.
