That raw emotion when he breaks down in tears, not hollywood TV tears like most "performers" even when they are protraying legitimate emotions they still ham it up because its their nature, they're on TV. But this was literal crying and you can just feel the sadness and regret through the screen.

It breaks my heart over 13 years later.

Tests were conducted on Benoit's brain by Julian Bailes, the head of neurosurgery at West Virginia University, and results showed that "Benoit's brain was so severely damaged it resembled the brain of an 85-year-old Alzheimer's patient."[120] He was reported to have had an advanced form of dementia, similar to the brains of four retired NFL players who had suffered multiple concussions, sank into depression, and harmed themselves or others.

That level of brain damage really scares me. It's such a delicate thing, but if I ever knew my thoughts were incoherent and in any physical pain... I dunno, it'd just feel disgusting to me. There probably wasn't any way to repair it either. Seems like his life ended when he chose to do wrestling with dive moves

It's a common belief among those who knew them that Eddie Guerrero's death was a big part of what made Benoit go off the deep end. So it's pretty significant to have this video of him talking about it. You don't have to like the guy to appreciate the video from a historical perspective.

Apparently Benoit was traumatized by the deaths of so many of his friends and was always on edge expecting it to happen again, and then it happened to his best friend. It's not hard to see why it affected him so much, though by all accounts he had other issues even before all of that so it's not like he's blameless either.

I just remember cringing hardcore every time he did the diving headbutt because it looked so brutal. Half the time he would even clench his head in pain for a while before going for the pin, so you could tell he was fucking himself up. More than once I literally shouted at the screen for him to pick another finishing move. Kind of strange to think about that now.

Yes, there's a lot of blame that falls on the WWE for this kind of shit, but it's also 100% his decision to make ramming things with his head from high altitudes his signature style. There's a lot of things you can blame here and while it's not fair to talk about him like he was Jeffrey Dahmer, at the end of the day his wife and kid would still be alive if it weren't for him and they had families as well.

When I say "this kind of shit" I'm not referring only to Chris Benoit.

They gave Steve Austin steroids, he went on to beat his wife in roid rage, and they covered the whole thing up because they were concerned about Steve's star power and their profits.

Steve Austin could have refused the steroids--he didn't, so that decision falls on him, but WWE peddled in illegal drugs and then covered up both their illegal drug dealings as well as the fact that it caused Steve Austin to beat his wife.

Steve Austin's only other choice however was to get fired and go get a new job.

In Chris Benoit's case, the WWE knew about brain trauma but actively covered it up, encouraged Chris to accrue more and more brain damage, and then fight tooth and nail to absolve themselves of all legal responsibility for injuring their own employees.

Imagine this. I'm a forklift operator for a huge warehouse. Something falls from on high and hits me in the head. I get a concussion despite wearing a hardhat. The boss tells me to get back into the forklift and keep working so I do. I pass out while driving and run over 2 people killing them. Who is at fault?

My point is now WWE forbids Bryan from wrestling for the same reasons but the fans want him to wrestle regardless. So it's like WWE's fault when they don't know any better and then it's still their fault when they want to be safe now. Can't win it with the fans at all.

Eh, Vince ran the show and knowingly let Benoit sacrifice his health doing dangerous stunts for money and fame, and of course it was not just for himself, as it benefitted the company to some extent as well. He should accept some responsibility for not having his performers long term well being as his utmost priority.

Omg thank you for saying that. I find it hysterical whenever CE devolves into "he's objectively evil and nothing that can ever be said will change my mind," when a more logical and clever person would look upon Benoit's incident and just learn the importance of protecting your brain.

Plenty of other cases where CE will just cry foul and denounce anybody who's actually trying to discuss certain subjects. Reminds me of anti-vaxxers but I feel like I said that about CE before

Tbh Benoit probably was out of his head.

He is not a murderer if his brain was severly damaged.

I know a guy in real life who killed himself because he overdosed on pain medicine.

There was nothing in his life to drive him to do that. He was a kind and happy spirit. His family was utterly shocked.
One day he just blew out his brains.

Only thing was he took way more than the dose he should have but it is not like he expected that to make him do such a thing.

Lol? Nobody's justifying the act of killing a child. Like none of us are dumb enough to do so, and most of us are smart enough to not associate the act of damaging a brain and the act of killing a child, as in just because one is justifiable, the other is as well.

What happened with the Benoits is a big tragedy, and the best thing we can do is just not make something ridiculous as ramming our heads into a wall over and over something fit for entertainment
