Shovel Knight

as much as i enjoyed Shovel i gotta give it to Hollow because it's a 'metroidvania' and i'm a sucker for those. and the combat is better.
both are fantastic games though --- Playing: God of War, Soul Calibur VI, Smash Ultimate (~);} - I suppose it will all make sense when we grow up - {;(~) ... Copied to Clipboard!

Hollow Knight but you can't go wrong with either one. Both are SO generous with their price points and DLC.

I bounced of hollow knight pretty hard. Put close to 10 hours in cause people said it got better, but i just couldnt get into it.

Shovel Knight was more my thing. Super colorful and a great art style. I did not like Hollow Knights artsyle whatsoever.

Tough one. Both are excellent games. I think I slightly prefer more traditional platformers like Shovel Knight over Metroidvanias. But Hollow Knight had a ton of depth. Plus, beating bosses in Hollow Knight was more satisfying than accomplishing anything in Shovel Knight. So I have to go with Hollow Knight for this.

There's something yahtzee from zero punctuation said about shovel knight that stuck with me that highlights why it's a great game. It seems like a homage to a ton of retro NES games like mega man, castelvania, metroid, and mario games, but it works on a level where you don't need to play any of those games or even have a frame of reference of those games to enjoy shovel knight.
