Never interested in voting for studios based solely on how much I like their anime. Seems boring and pointless to me.

Ended up going;

+5 MAPPA for two very high quality products and furthering unfetishized LGBT representation in anime.

+3 Lidenfilms for extremely impressive advancements in anime rotoscoping

+1 Kamikaze Douga for engaging and smart use of multimedia in PopTepic

I've done some prelim ballots for stuff I think I want to consider for some of the categories.

I was looking at best visuals and I really think that some of the frontrunners for that are stacked at the start of the year.

Also Dragon Pilot is a bad show.

Cells at Work has a good OP too but I haven't seen anyone mention it so I figured I should.

For supporting characters, did anyone other than me like Megumi from Antarctica? She was probably my second favorite character from it after Shirase but I imagine most either hated her or have forgotten about her.

By the way how are we determining who qualifies as a side character? Are we just using best judgment? We could also go by however MAL classifies them, but I have no idea how accurate that would actually be. (Initial glance suggests not very accurate)

Specifically I want to know if Sayaka from Bloom Into You counts as a supporting character because that will make my vote incredibly easy in this category.

...But then again there's also Maeda from Asobi. Oh god this is going to be harder than I thought.

What's your stance on deciding which characters are supporting? Just use our own judgement?

For most series it's an easy enough, are you one of the main characters/the protagonist?

After that it's down to does the story keep following your actions throughout the show and how much screentime the character gets.

Though there will always be some borderline cases for every situation, so try to be reasonable enough with your own judgement.

For best male character, I'll of course be throwing my weight behind Goblin Slayer, but there's a few others that I liked.

Nitta - Hinamatsuri
Saiki - Saiki K
Akira - Devilman: Crybaby
Kenny Ackerman - AoT (though I'll be more likely to back him as a supporting character)

For the women aside from the obvious GS crew, I did like Violet's character arc a lot. SAO:GGO had Karen as a very likeable protagonist and there's a few characters from Hinamatsuri I was a big enough fan of.

Bit surprised, but S;G 0 didn't really do much for me, I was expecting it to do very well early on and then I sort of never followed up on the show.

MHA/Jojo have some candidates for both categories in addition to supporting, but maybe not for the very top spots.

Going through, there's actually been a decent amount of shows I enjoyed watching, but only a few that I feel very strongly about when it comes to the ballot.

I don't think it was an issue of eligibility, just what you were using to determine if you wanted to vote for them.

Yeah so if we allow votes for characters from previously existing franchises, then my top 3 votes for male character are all going to be for characters that have already existed since well before 2018.

If other people don't view that as a problem, then that's fine, but I figured I'd mention it.

I will say all my females are looking to be new characters though.
