One of them has stressed that if I fail, I can just retry it over again, no matter how many tries it takes, unlike my finals, which I am sure that I got at most a B on last week. Another of them has said that it's not recommended that I put so much mental energy into stressing about my road test, since I can, again, retake it in a month's time; plus, I think she was implying that stressing so much would affect my performance. The last one tells me that since I don't plan to drive straightaway, that I needn't put so much pressure on my self to succeed since I can just retake it in a month if I fail. Two of these people are medical professionals and the first one is some bloke on the internet. Yet, I cannot help but feel that I would be a failure if I took my road test too many times; I just feel like there's a negative stigma around it, like I'm not as competent as other people (which is probably true to some extent). Anyway, do you agree with these people?

I must have these answers.

Yes. Driving is easy. I don't know the rules there, but take your test in an automatic because it's easier. Here, you can drive a manual right after you pass in an automatic. Also, take your test in the smallest town possible. I have a Class 1 license. If I can drive a tractor, anyone can drive anything.

You can literally fail as much as you want and keep retaking. Where are you from, I passed in the UK but might be different wherever youre at.

I took mine and passed first time, but I know plenty of people who didnt. One of the people I look up to the most who is literally good at everything he does (good with ladies, good job, good degree from good university, good looking, winning at life etc) failed his test about 5 or 6 times before he passed.

Failing multiple times doesnt mean anything, just means you know what not to do the next time round. If anything the only drawback is having to pay 60 or whatever it is to keep retaking it but honestly it doesnt matter. Youre also probably more competent than 50% of road users out there cause as soon as most people are done with tests and start driving unassisted they get into bad habits.

Dont stress about it, just get yourself prepared for it. Ask your instructor what the easiest test route is, and book a test just after rush hour ie 10:00am or so.

No one cares about how many times you take your test. And honestly, stressing over it just increases the odds you're going to panic and fail it anyway.

Just chill and relax. Personally I didn't even bother taking my test at all until like six months after I was eligible, and no one gave me shit for me. A couple of people failed, and no one gave them shit for it.

As much as Hollywood has been telling people for years that owning and being able to drive your own car is the ultimate teenage milestone aside from losing your virginity, it's not as huge a deal as it's made out to be.

Psst... in the USA they basically give licenses away even to people who can't actually drive.

Because that makes perfect sense.

I knew a guy named Jimmy, he worked in craft services and a magnetized plate on his skull, if he can pass - so can you, ok?

Generally speaking, the test is supposed to be whether or not you know the rules of the road and drive without running down pedestrians or hitting trees, not whether or not you can properly work a clutch or shift gears. Taking the test in a manual trans car does add a level of unnecessary difficulty.

Once you pass in an automatic, they don't really care whether or not you know what you're doing when it comes to manual transmission, because if you fuck that up it's mostly only your own car that's going to suffer for it, which makes it your own problem.

Granted, one could argue that having to deal with manual trans after the fact creates an extra layer of distraction that could cause accidents in general that might harm other people, but the same could be said of things like radios and hands-free phones, and we still haven't banned those yet - or added them to the driving test.

It's easy. Where theyll get you is stuff like no blinkers not checking blind spots or not stopping at railroad crossings.

Those people are right. If you fail, try again. It's really not that big of a deal. If you keep failing, re-evaluate how you're treating the failures so you can better learn from them. Ask for a copy of your test sheet (if they don't give you one without being asked) so you can practice stuff you screwed up and try to do better next time.

I failed the driving test the first time I took it simply because I messed up on parallel parking. I have not parallel parked ever since I passed the test... It's easy enough to avoid since parallel parking spaces are not common in my city.

It took me so many times to pass mine. My tester was a bitch. I tried in a different county but failed because I didn't know the area and was even more nervous because of that. Now I'm one of the only people in this county that actually does the speed limit and pays attention. (And practically dancing to the music on the radio sipping on a bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper.)
