So all there is in a conversation is words? No visual clues?

I think a lot of these guys dont understand that communication includes a lot more than just the actual words being said. Body language, timing, tone, and other cues give us context for interactions, which we can either ignore or use at our discretion. That engineer was also presumably making more pay than a burger flipper at McDonalds, so I would like to think hed be smart enough to not provoke his boss beyond his already agitated state.

We're also only getting the employee's account of the conversation. Musk wasn't given an opportunity to defend himself so we'll never know if things happened exactly like he said.

The young engineer climbed over a low safety barrier and walked away. He was bewildered by what had just happened. The entire conversation had lasted less than a minute. A few moments later, his manager came over to say that he had been fired on Musks orders, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. The engineer was shocked. Hed been working so hard. He was set to get a review from his manager the next week, and had been hearing only positive things. Instead, two days later, he signed his separation papers.

He should have had his manager say on paper he was fired but still go to work. It's not like Musk was going to follow up on it as he doesn't even know his name nor would remember it.

It is political talk for framing a bias.

That bias doesn't have to be based on anything that Elon Musk personally did for you though. Like your bias could just be that you're willing to be a bootlicker for anyone you perceive as being attacked by "the left". Or maybe you just like being a contrarian.

darkphoenix181 posted...
In particular I offered no story but cited a lack of one. I wasn't creating a narrative but saying we could not draw from what was presented a narrative.

There isn't a lack of a story. They told a story. You just said "Hey I don't have details x,y,z and so I'm going to assume they were left out because they changed the narrative". But you explicitly created alternative narratives along the way. "Maybe alarms were going off", "Maybe the person who grabbed him told him exactly what Elon wanted but he still decided to be annoying", etc. Your lack of consistency in picking a narrative just says that you are trying to see what can stick, rather than being some statement about the endless possibilities that exist.

darkphoenix181 posted...
That is, the story in the op creates a narrative. It also is intended to draw you to conclusion about Musk.

If I was making a counter narrative I would try to make him look good and cite people he helped etc. I didn't.

I mean, if my narrative is to say maybe we don't have all the facts umm ok? Not a correct assertion but it is benign and close to my intent.

It paints a picture of Musk that tracks with the other details given in the story. There's support of the story in the form of other details. Also, your "we don't have all of the facts" is just a sliding scale. The idea that you're just a few details about the working of the machine away from believing this story is ridiculous.

Do you think this is out of character for Musk? What's the source of your belief that the story is fabricated?

funny how darkphoenix refuses to refute your argument but hides behind others who seem to back Musk's behavior. lol *shrug*

Yes, it can be. It really depends on what the employee, in this example, saw, heard, and basically was experiencing with regards to his boss, Musk, as it all pertains to the context of his job, that particular projects specifications and desired results, their relevant business culture, what happened before all of this incident, and so much more. I mean it sounds like a lot to process, but our brains receive and go through all this information and calculate for a wide range of responses in seconds.

Shouldn't have smart-mouthed the CEO

And people wonder why they can't get jobs

He didn't. He asked for clarification on what his boss was asking. And musk never answered. It sounds like the guy got fired for someone else's mistake. Not sure why Musk assumed a random person made the mistake

That man should sue

Then don't ask the boss questions.

@darkphoenix181

The one thing youre ignoring is the possibility that Elon had the engineers entire family bound and gagged on their knees just behind the console, in plain sight, with a death squad ready to fire at the snap of Musks fingers. Elon and the engineer were using coded language, and the responses the engineer gave were exactly what he needed to say in order to get his family out of the situation safely.

Despite the fact that several people reported similar behavior from Musk on numerous occasions?

And regardless, it's entirely unprofessional and immature to berate your employees and swear at them. That behavior is indefensible.

Musk's lawyers also note an email Musk sent to BuzzFeed following the tweets and the threat of a lawsuit. Hes an old, single white guy from England whos been traveling to or living in Thailand for 30 to 40 years, mostly Pattaya Beach, until moving to Chiang Rai for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time, Musk wrote to the website, adding "I (expletive) hope he sues me.
