We've had Florida's number recently, though we could definitely fuck it up with several players leaving early and Harbaugh's recent trend of tanking to end a season. SEC >>> ACC. I feel like Nevada's pretty clearly better than Arkansas St, I don't get why Ark St's favored. Clemson should win but I'm not overly confident they'll blow Notre Dame out.

Because Arizona Bowl. It's always been on the 29th. It's even worse than usual this year because they're sticking all the playoff games on the Saturday before New Year's instead of making them New Year's Day games like they should be.

Yes I would rather watch UCF/Alabama or UCF/Clemson because if UCF beat LSU then for 2 straight years we have a team that may or may not be playoff/title caliber but we just have to go oh well, get a better schedule/conference. Of course that completely overlooks that the schedule is made years in advance and they already tried to get into a P5 but were told no.

Yes there will be blowouts but an 8 team playoff is guaranteed to have more exciting games than a one-off game and we aren't left with any lingering questions about how good a team is.

Like I'd see your point if we kept ending up with a 1 against 2 in the final every year but we don't. The 4 seeds has 2 out of 4 wins. We literally had a final last season that was 3 against 4. So it's not unreasonable to think maybe someone in that next cluster who could have won it all.

Some years we have a clear 1-2 who are better than everyone else and some years we don't.

Also my desire for an 8 team playoff is to try take some of subjectivity out of the playoff selection. At the start of the season you know the exact criteria to make it.

You could add in extra criteria like saying a P5 champion isn't guaranteed to be in if they are like 3 loss or worse.

Yeah you would get some garbage games in the first round but there could be no gripes about getting left out.

We always know who is better. The problem is that the committee still puts a large weight on who "deserves" to be there. There is essentially nobody on Earth who thought that Notre Dame was better than Georgia. But they get in, with virtually zero controversy, because they "deserve" it.

Give me 1 vs 2. No selection committee. Put it in the hands of the Vegas sportsbook point spread power rankings people. That will get us the best matchup, as judged by the betting public (i.e. the segment of the public that is actually informed and not just agreeing with media hype).
