Not sure what I think about this myself. I feel there are people who will think the game is actually based on real history and think for example there really was 2 women who stopped the Nazi's from making heavy water.

if they had just owned the alternate history take, it would have been better. but they tried to double down and say it was historical and that haters just were "ignorant". yea ok, a few women maybe in the war did some spy work or something. but they weren't cyborgs and except for like maybe one russian lady I might have heard of, they didn't really fight. and there were no black nazis. hitler hated black people.

From what I've seen BFV does not have black models for the Axis armies anyway. There's a lot of diversity on the Allied side and then like half as much without any minorities (from what I remember) on the Axis side.

There were lots of female Soviet snipers and whole units of black men who fought for the Allies in WW2.

I dont care about this any more than I care about princess peach being kidnapped or titties in senran kagura or whatever else. People on both sides of the spectrum latch onto these dumb political mini battles in video games and comic books and movies and stuff because they have little identity outside of them. You see the same sort of thing where you look at the Wikipedia article for lightsaber and its multiple times longer than the articles for some historical figures and scientific concepts.

We live in an age where 30-somethings on the internet care way more about video games than middle schoolers do, and its frankly depressing when way worse more interesting and important stuff is happening around us at all times. Video games are not worth the time or energy it takes to fight culture wars

They're alright, the biggest problem is that the AI is normally garbage in general. They're basically like very fancy board games though.

Old game bugs were the best... In the original XCOM there was an issue where the game would automatically revert to the Beginner difficulty regardless of which difficulty you chose, and people complained it was too easy and then they made *everything* hard for the second game >_>

EA made a new game about WW2 but has female cyborgs fighting in the war. and when people complained, they told the complainers that actual women were in the war and that they were just historically ignorant. but the stuff in the game is way over exaggerated to what actually happened in real life.

There are no female cyborgs in the game. The promotional video was the worst one I've ever seen in a Battlefield game but Dice eventually recognized that it was over the top and took some of that stuff out of it.

But yeah in the reveal trailer they show this ragtag group of people going into a house and one of them is a woman with a prosthetic hook arm/hand thing. The video was a whole wreck to be honest, none of it made sense and then this guy does superhuman feats like shoots down three planes and kills five guys with a pistol.

It was easily the worst Battlefield promo vid ever.

In the final game there are women in the multiplayer and minorities (for the Allied forces, not for the Axis forces). All the women have shaved heads though it's kinda sad :(

like he said, they took it out I guess. I very clearly remember an initual cinematic when the game was announced with a woman who had a cybernetic arm. maybe they just retconned that by the time it came out

I don't usually bother with historical games if they aren't at least somewhat historically accurate. Kills the immersion for me when Spartan women lead the army on the front lines killing everyone or pregnant topless women dual wielding assault rifles are gunning down Nazis.

The only purpose to games like this is to drastically rewrite history to promote ideology. If they want to make a story about a strong woman, they can do so I a modern or future setting, or In a pure fantasy. I'm not going to invest in a game being marketed as an authentic historical experience that is actively defying that setting.

Not to mention the sabotage itself is definitely based on real world history (though the part about the women is made up) and there's nothing "spartan" about them - the whole campaign for everyone, male or female, emphasizes stealth for the most part and makes it abundantly clear that you're not really meant to be engaging in combat, except for in a few places.

They are full of shit.

Battlefield is not historically accurate, nor has it ever been. BF1, in particular, had some massive anachronisms. If you want to learn about the World Wars, pick up a fucking book from an accredited historian or take a class.

People like to arbitrary draw lines about balance or gameplay, but realistically, they chose the settings. It's not like it was forced on them.

Either way, though, these guys are fucking missing out because BFV is one of the tightest and most entertaining BF games in awhile. They really listened to fans and fixed pretty much all the things people didn't like about the last couple entries.

I guess admitting that doesn't get as many clicks and doesn't really feed into the whole imaginary SJW-paranoia narrative, though.
