the Noble Nine is broken

There are probably people posting on GameFAQs who weren't born yet the first time the Noble Nine was proclaimed broken.

It's funny how I return to look at this board every time I catch wind that the character battle is happening, and it's the same discussion topics every time, even after years and years.

Well, this seems like an okay place to dump this. So a few weeks ago I posted a topic examining the idea that any time a Noble Nine member lost to a non-Noble Nine member, the NNer would have to forfeit their NN spot to the challenger. This contest's "Lineal Nine", as you guys called it, has since been determined, so I'm posting an update here.

- Any time a LN member is outplaced in a match by a non-LN member in any 1v1 or free-for-all format, they will immediately lose their spot to the challenger
- If a non-LN member beats multiple LN members, only the lower-placing LN member loses his spot
- If multiple non-LN members beat a LN member, only the highest-placing challenger gets the LN spot

-No active Lineal Nine member has ever failed to make the next contest. Thank goodness Squirtle lost to Pikachu.
-Amaterasu and Pikachu are lucky bastards. Amaterasu took the freest Lineal Nine spot ever, then she lost to Sephiroth when both in the Nine, then Sephiroth lost his spot to Mario and failed to reclaim it from Tifa. Pikachu lost to Mega Man when both were in the Nine, then Mega Man immediately lost his spot to Crono.

The NN didn't get rounds of facing fodder and midcarders this contest due to them being seeded into the Legends Bracket, where they faced division winners only, so it makes sense their winrate was lower this year. For the first time, however, a normal non rally or joke character beat the middle and even upper Noble Nine, beating 3 in a row in Snake, Sonic, and Mario.

The sad thing is that Crono got 4 times more votes in 12 hours in that match than Link is going to get today in 24 hours. Even with the registered voter bonus applied to Link today, Crono will still be close to a tripling.

Only champions have defeated Link, and while he only got rematches against one of those three champions he has beaten Cloud thirteen times in a row since 2003's original loss.

Outside of Amaterasu, that actually looks pretty close to what the actual top 9 probably is right now.

Link/Cloud/Mario/Samus/Zelda/Crono/Pikachu should all be in there. Megaman and Snake should be in there over Amaterasu and Tifa, but Tifa is probably #10 or 11 so its reasonable for her to have a spot coming off a contest with so many big wins.

Next contest, we just need to job Amaterasu to either Snake/Megaman and put the other of Snake/MM vs Tifa.
