Game is very easy, but when has Pokemon ever been difficult? Do not miss fighting wild Pokemon honestly. Kind of like that there are two different systems for Wild and Trainer battles.

i've really come around on a lot of conceptual stuff about the game i wasn't a fan of, largely due to nanis' topic on the board here. but stripping away abilities and held items really still doesn't sit well with me. who thought that stuff was too complicated?!

I could see Let's Go being a good starting point to get young kids into the series since the battle system has been simplified due to the removal of abilities and held items.

Not really stripping them away if they were never in RBY to begin with. This is a remake of the original games after all.

It's been enjoyable to observe the visual refresh and notice little changes here and there. Endgame seems especially unappealing. I don't like how you can seemingly boost any Pokemon's stats outrageously high using easily obtainable candies.

i just think that pokemon, especially this game, is easy enough that it would be fine to ignore these things if you wanted to, but it almost feels insultingly simple this way

I really think the multiplayer features make this game worth getting if you have someone to play the game with. It's unarguably a step backward for the franchise in some ways (removed features, removed online, further Kanto pandering, etc.), but it's a huge step forward in things like graphics, the multiplayer feature, and seeing Pokemon in the overworld.

Amie was hilarious even in the main games. Literally had a Pokemon survive at 1HP 6 times in a row. Probably super low odds of that happening, but it was amazing to see. Didnt know about the lack of abilities and held items. This game sounds easy enough for a 4-5 year old to beat fairly easily. Maybe that was the intent to capture a new generation of fans? I dont know.

I'm actually enjoying it a lot re-exploring Kanto with the updated overworld & such mechanics

"too easy" isn't getting in my way since I prefer to focus on catching 'em all anyways which means I constantly have a team of weaklings I'm trying to evolve so I'm still getting beaten down a lot

as someone who stopped paying attention to the games after bw2, im enjoying it a lot.

it's the perfect, chill return to kanto. and people acting like the main quest in most pokemon games aren't laughably easy need to chill. this is definitely a little easier than those (so far,I've only just beaten misty), but you can keep yourself relatively in check by not chain catching a ton of pokemon and by limiting use of your partner pokemon (they still travel on your shoulder).

The newer ones with exp share off were actually somewhat challenging because the games were designed to be played with it on. They really should do a Hard mode available from the start instead of the half-assed thing B/W tried with it. Not that Pokemon is ever really hard outside of the cheating battle arenas

I've been toying with the idea of having 2 people play simultaneously side by side, using Nuzlocke rules and seeing who can beat the E4/Catch Mewtwo first. This would of course make up for the lack of difficulty because at that point you would be competing more against each other, than the game itself. We could even have friendly matches at certain points in the game, potentially for bonus points.

Maybe a 1 point for each Gym you beat BEFORE the other, or lose 1 point for having a Pokemon faint. Would there be any interested in that?

As far as Nuzlocke rules they would be:

Nickname all Pokemon
1 Pokemon Caught Per Route/Dungeon (The one that spawns physically closest to you upon entering)
If a Pokemon Faints, they get released/discarded. If Pikachu/Eevee faint, they get permanently benched.
Battle style would be set to "Set" (If that's even possible in this game.

Would there be any interest in setting up a series like this? Trying to think of some new unique ideas for the channel.

Incredible doesn't mean what it used to if anyone truly thinks this game's qualify. The art is nice and it's pretty, but the graphics would have been easily possible on a Playstation 3.

Almost every gym in the game has a "requirement" that you have to meet before challenging it.

Brock you NEED to have a Grass/Water pokemon
Sabrina you NEED to have a level 45+ pokemon
Koga you NEED to have 50 unique pokemon.

I forget the rest.

Looking at Serebii they seem to be
Brock: have a grass/water type
Misty: Have a level 15+ pokemon
Surge: Essentially the same as before, you gotta be able to cut trees
Erika: Have a cute pokemon, which your partner counts as so it's basically free
Koga: 50 unique pokemon
Sabrina: pokemon level 45+
Blaine: Same as before, get the secret key
Giovanni: Complete the story up to that point and get mega stone from Blue

But I guess, we could run around and capture 50 pokemon offscreen, get into the gym, then ditch them. That would still adhere to the rules.

If the game demands you to catch Pokemon as your proceed, perhaps the rules need to be changed. Maybe you can catch all you want, but you can only actively USE the first/closest Pokemon you see per route/dungeon. Would that make sense?

I don't have the game, but I thought your entire team gets experience from trainer battles.

Okay, assuming you need to beat Koga to surf we have

21 routes
Viridian Forest
Mt. Moon
Diglett's Cave
Rock Tunnel
Pokemon Tower

And I know you can get Pokemon in a few cities, so let's say ~30 Pokemon caught.

It's doable, but may require luck (especially if you don't ban duplicates)

Nuzlocking is good because when you face all player challengers your team is going to be slightly lower than required for gyms in the good pokemon games, you can grind and be over leveled but for certain parts (red) it's just too much of a time constraint.

the parts that turn boys into men are when you get wipe out, left with only one level 5 pokemon late game, and you grind the shit out of it and rebuild your team from the ground up for pure vengeance
