Aren't these just demos until you stump up the cash? If not, what do the IAPs do?

(There used to be Android remakes of the three Game Gear Shining Force games, but they were only released in Japan and delisted ages ago. Would be nice if they reappeared in English).

Theyre to remove ads, though Ill quote the top review on iOS right now:

You can pay $4.99 to remove all ads but in fact it only removes non-Sega ads. Plus, you still have to watch one to save the game, and I am still seeing non-Sega adds there, so this is literally false advertising. And on top of that, they force you to be connected to the internet to save, in case you thought you could enjoy the game and also skip the ads...

The reviews say theres a crash in SF 2 if you use magic. I think Ill wait on this one to see if they fix it. Though if anyone here is able to use magic normally I may reconsider.

for anyone who hasn't played shining force and is thinking about it, or hasn't played for a long time, consider the following:

shining force, I loved them as a kid, they are responsible for getting me into turn based strategy honestly
but I try to play them recently and.. ehhhh...
there's no visible turn order
there's no way to determine what will happen before you do it
the character classes and fighting styles are all very basic
it's less of a turn based strategy and more of just a turn based RPG that happens to take place on a top down grid
there's no real strategy because you can't efficiently compare units or determine when anything is going to happen

I'm not saying 'don't play' but definitely temper your expectations.

still a huge fan of Shining in the Darkness though, love that game. really cool to see that was included too instead of the more well known SF 1+2.

yeah, dont expect a huge challenge, do expect some charm though and a look into the early front runners of the genre

The GBA remake with the card system of shining force 1 was pretty good too

I think the games do have their own unique style and charm, that's true. it's one of the reasons I still love Shining in the Darkness despite it being very dated. also agree the GBA remake of Shining Force 1 was great. the cards added an extra element of collectibles that made me feel more invested in completing things and searching areas.

People are talking Shining Force so i'm not going to pass up the moment to stan about my Shining Force d100 Tabletop system. It takes a little getting used to but so far it works. I play it with a group of friends we haven't gotten to the higher levels yet to see if they function as well as they are written. All feedback is welcome but I would prefer constructive criticism. So, I did end up downloading this and been playing SF 2. Is there any way to reset back to the title screen in game without losing progress? I'm guessing not, since the in-battle quit option does take you back to the title screen but does not save progress.

It doesn't matter too much and the app's save feature can effectively replace this, but just curious.

I think quit is supposed to suspend the battle so that should probably get patched. Maybe send a note on the app store
