I've never been very invested. Being limited with trading helps a lot with that. The cool thing about keeping your use of trades limited is the most viable option of your favorites will naturally rise to the top maximizing your chances of actually having a winner you like. Case in point this contest where 3/6 remaining would be awesome winners

i mean...i know why i was invested. i was a casual saver before last year and got invested because Inviso told me we could probably get Vanille a good placing. and at a time when her best placement was like 30 something, sure it seemed doable. so i stuck around and she far exceeded expectations but i still feel like it was an overperformance. i don't really believe in her "natural strength" and was convinced that a performance like that couldn't be replicated so i was prepared to go out on that.

but then i hear about all of XIII being pushed and figure okay Vanille could probably benefit from that. and obviously since she got 4th the last time and i don't really believe she can get a high placing naturally after this, anything below 3rd will be considered a failure because she's never going to get this chance again. so i started investing. and now it feels like i spent 3 months to get 7th which means nothing to me.

fuck.

maybe under other circumstances i would have been fine with 7th and i don't want it to come off like i'm diminishing the efforts of everyone involved. really it only hurts as much as it does because i legitimately believed she was getting higher than this. hope is the worst.

Alternatively you can see your main last 30 rounds past where you expected him and then watch as characters you were thinking of switching to die well before him (Galuf, X-Death, Ashe etc)

I mean I do like Cid P quite a bit so its not a loss by any means, more happy than sad

top ten is generally a crapshoot - unless you have an overwhelming number of people supporting someone (like Steiner in XVII), things tend to be very much round by round

once we hit 4 saves, I prefer to approach every round by assuming my current priority is going to die

Top 5 prediction stats time, which I should have done yesterday especially since I'm going to post more stuff now, after this. Oh well!

Six of us provided top 5 predictions (some people in a specific order but I've disregarded that): Bane, mnkboy907, Nanis23, User728, Inviso and myself

All 6 of us have Cid P, Vincent and Vanille in the Final 3, so the Vanille elim did catch us all off guard...

And for the rest:

Fang: 5 (everyone but Bane)
Kefka: 3 (Bane, mnkboy907, Inviso)
Seymour: 2 (Martin, User)
Rikku: 1 (Bane)
Vivi: 1 (Nanis)

Nanis being the odd one out so far but one round left to the top 5 so, we'll see how it shakes out tomorrow.

I know, you and I were just general 5s and the rest were in order but I didn't save people's orderings anyways. I think Nanis had Vivi #1 anyways, heh...

So I was digging around the final topics of XIX to figure out how much time we get per round as we get closer to the end, good times.

Janus was fairly dedicated even after Kain was eliminated

Caught this comment from Steiner that uh, proved portentous...

So then I started checking my posts from the early rounds of this contest to see when I started participating, I thought I didn't until like Day 10-15 but apparently I was around right at Day 1. Bunch of saves from me I don't remember making. I guess they were afterthoughts since my main focus was Save My Anime...

I did stumble upon this in an early round though, which completely redeemed lefty in my eyes:



The unprompted Cissnei save... like a unicorn in the wilderness. So nice.

Also caught this small bit of foreshadowing:



51 rounds later, going stronger than ever. Still not sure how we got to this point...

Aside from Lightning, it had been a while since someone from XIII had had any real success. Outside of Hope in CXIV/CXV, nobody else had managed to make even the top 20 before Vanille's run last contest. Now she's the only character with an active top ten streak. Vanille continues to repair her poor numbers at breakneck speed, climbing from 50.90% to 57.06%, up ten spots to 36th.
