I was homeschooled K-12 and I think that if it is to remain a legal option for education, then there needs to be heavier regulation and requirements on both curricula and parents.

Ehhhh, not really, especially when you get into the more severely oddball groups of home education such as unschooling

If you're homeschooling your kids because you're afraid of liberal indoctrination... isn't that tantamount to child abuse in some way?

Mostly it means you're a paranoid and/or arrogant prick who doesn't trust the public system, but you're too broke to afford a private school.

Story time!

I dont believe my mother at all but, pretending what she says is remotely truthful and valuable: my birthday falls later in the year and I wouldve been delayed in entering kindergarten. At that point, I was already reading (this part is true and I started reading at 3) and she thought that it would be better to just educate me at home since I was ready.

Lol if you believe her version of events tho

Its not true at all is the issue tbh.

They literally kept me inside 24/7 unless I was running errands with them. Neither of my parents worked (father had to quit when I was very young) so I was around them constantly. And because we were broke as shit they couldnt really afford to say, send me off to camp or get me involved with peers.

But yeah its not just my experience that compels me to argue against homeschooling. Im definitely biased, but there are alarming amounts of loopholes and opportunities for children to be abused, poorly educated, and even killed because no one is keeping an eye on these families.

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories.
Kids chained in their rooms, only getting monthly showers, except when guests came. They even visited relatives and put on a good act. I dunno how you could hold it together and act normal. I don't even know how understand what normal is, living like that.

No, but it needs to be regulated a lot more.

I wasn't home schooled, but my sister (2 years younger) was. They said it's because she had a shit teacher and they spent time coloring in school instead of learning. She was expected to go back the following year, but that never happened.

But outside of living with my mom still, she seems to be doing okay. She is social, has a good job, and is generally better educated then most people.

No. It's an important option for kids with certain health, or mental issues.

And many public school systems are straight up dangerous or bad. While private school can be extremely expensive.

It needs work but taking it off the table entirely is a horrible idea.

I could get behind this. I wouldn't mind homeschooling my own kids but I'd be afraid to hurt their socialization; at least I'd consider sending them to a charter school or heavily researched private school.
Public school just feels very unsafe and didn't really do me any good aside from being able to say "hey I went to that school".

It shouldn't be illegal, nor regulated. If you're competent enough to excel and score high on college entrance exams, it should make no difference. If not, well, plenty of other jobs that need doing.

That's just my anecdotal experience tho. I just started using untraditional ways to get similar results. Don't ask me about geography or history tho. All I know is they never caught Tupac and Biggies killers (history) and Tupace is west coast, while Biggie is east coast(geography).

A lot of it I didnt overcome hence needing counseling. Theres a lot buried underneath my success, which people dont know about.

I do have other things to focus on, but trauma isnt going to go away that easily.
