This movie, the second, is about as bland a shounen affair as you can get. The definition of a worthless shounen movie with cardboard villain and no real plot. It's existence has no point. Making a show of putting this in theaters is like making a show of putting the Lord Slug DBZ movie in theaters.

Better than the first movie, which is the most offensively awful shounen anime film I've ever seen.

Torikos creator got in trouble once for something child related and his series at the time was canceled. Ive seen people say his good friend Oda convinced Jump to give him a second chance, but Ive never seen a source for that claim or anything. The two are good friends though

Finished reading the first 2 volumes of the Land of the Lustrous manga. I'd already watched the anime, but I'm starting from the beginning in the manga anyways to remind myself of what happened and to pick up on any changes or things I missed. Anyway, some thoughts:

--So far it looks like the anime adaptation was extremely faithful to the manga. That's a bit surprising to me because I'd actually heard that some things got changed. Maybe I heard wrong or maybe the changes don't happen until later? Idk.

--I think I like the anime version a little bit more so far? What I miss most is probably the voice acting honestly. Of course the action scenes are better in animated form because here sometimes it's hard for me to tell what's going on, but I honestly never cared much about the action scenes even in the anime version anyways.

--Holy shit is it hard to tell who's who in this manga when everything is in black and white.

--One thing I have liked more in the manga for whatever reason is the character of Cinnabar, specifically. Though, a large part of that might be just because I wasn't paying much attention during the first 2 episodes of the anime. (I really didn't like episode 1 and almost stopped watching then)

--I still hate the stupid memory loss gimmick in the manga form as well. The fact that that only literary use for this so far has been to retcon out of existence the most important event of the first 4 volumes is an absolute disgrace. (Presumably only temporarily, but that doesn't make me like it any more)

The changes are mostly around the anime's end, just to wrap the season. While I think the art of the manga is beautiful, the lack of color and amazing VA work is certainly an issue.

That said, the manga content post anime is so good that I would never tell someone not to read it.

Memory loss hasn't been an issue for a long time, either. Though...other personality changes come into play.

I went and got a Hulu Subscription to add some variety along with my Netflix. They got a kickass anime lineup, damn.

And one thing they have over Netflix is that they have a Simulcast Section.

Woops I guess I'm caught up on the Land of the Lustrous manga. (with the stuff officially released in English anyway, which is to say that I've finished volume 6)

As always with this series I have somewhat mixed feelings. It's like there's so much interesting stuff about this setting, but the story refuses to focus on any of it and instead just gives us "the Lunarians are attacking!" for like 4 volumes in a row. And it's not like that's bad (it's good enough to get me to read 4 manga volumes in a day, at least!), but there's just so much wasted potential here I feel like. I want to see more of Phos/Cinnabar acting as lone wolves; I want to know more of what's going on with the Lunarians and the snail people; I just generally want to see more of the world outside of the perspective of Kongo-sensei and the gems. But so far the story has only been willing to give that out in bits and pieces.

On a brighter note, I did enjoy the Antarcticite stuff more in the manga than in the anime for a reason I can't quite pinpoint.

Also volume 7 releases like tomorrow or something, so maybe this will finally be the one that gives me what I've been waiting for from the series.

Well at this point I feel pretty comfortable citing Bloom Into You as my favorite yuri anime. I realize the total amount of yuri anime out there isn't especially high, but yeah.

Episode 7 minor spoilers
Really liked both Sayaka's backstory and the introduction of the teacher/bartender couple. The inclusion of adult LGBT characters in LBGT-focused stories is something I wish happened more often in anime. Only other example I can even think of is Wandering Son? I didn't like everything about that series, but that point in particular was one of my favorite things about it.

One minor (and common) complaint I have with a lot of of these anime is that they basically exist inside this closed-off fantasy world where LGBT romance is totally normal and accepted by anyone. (Like some yuri shows don't even have male characters, for example) On some level that's fine because I don't think every yuri anime out there should be obligated to tackle complex social issues. However there's also a middle ground you can take like this show is where you acknowledge the broader societal context and incorporate it into the writing, but still without fixating on it or making a big deal about it. Among other things that's something I'm really liking about this show.

I finally watched it and I agree with all of this so much.

TBH if it didn't have the triangle faces it would prolly jump above Bunny Girl Senpai and Gridman in the AOTS competition. The triangle faces really bug me tho.

It's not even to say the show has bad art or anything. The art is beautiful. I just hate the stylistic choice they made of making the faces so triangular.

Attack on Titan: Lost Girls OVAs beated. The first two eps were pretty great Annie stuff. Basically day in her life in the military police, which is pretty interesting for lots of reasons, though it's (intentionally) less illuminating than it could be. The third ep was really weird though. It was a strange 'what if' episode about Mikasa as a kid, and everything that happens is a bit strange. There are a couple good scenes, but they mostly lead up to absolutely nothing. Would not recommend watching this episode.
