I think one instance in which I really agree with using something akin to "Straight White Male" in a negative context is Todd in the Shadows' use of the term "White Guy with an Acoustic Guitar" when describing the excess of homogenised indie guitar ballad crap. There's definitely a sound that this describes, and it really is an issue to the point where you could play 10 songs to your average layman from different artists, and they're probably going to think it all sounds too similar to be enjoyable. Just the same bland white boys playing the same light and twangy indie rock with those stretched out, overreaching indie folk voices.
