I've been watching MMX videos cause why not and was reminded that the X2 Sigma boss fight is so fucking anti-climactic. I remember thinking there would be a third form, but nope. He just blows up and goes away.

Banjo Tooie tbh.

The first game had you do a crazy game show that tested your skills of the entire game up to that point, followed by a final showdown that kept you on your toes and utilized every skill in a fun and exciting way.

Tooie had a trivia game followed by a boring tank >_>

I forget which Resident Evil but the end boss is literally an easy peezy QTE and you end the game by shooting a rocket at a monster. And the only way to die is to not shoot.

What's that? You only press a single button to attack/counter and whenever you get hit you auto regen? It's a fake boss with no worthwhile gameplay?

What a piece of shit design philosophy that game had.

Shinnock in Mortal Kombat 4. He's supposed to be an almighty fallen Elder God, but he doesn't use any of his special moves and you can beat him by picking up the skulls lying around his lair and throwing hem at him four or five times.

to piggyback off of this....Shinnock again in MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. You can just jump into a portal and beat the game. Don't even need to fight/kill him. Though you do get the "bad ending" if you go that route.

Fallout 3, easily. Eden can be talked into killing himself in two lines of dialogue because it's the right thing to do or something. Liberty Prime is cool in theory, but his segment is nothing more than a follow-the-leader where he does all the work; there's two or three opportunities to actually shoot enemies, and stealing LP's kills will actually break the game by interrupting his scripting, resulting in him getting him stuck. And Col. Autumn is an indefensible bad joke.

Skyrim also gets a nod; apart from some meteors to dodge and occasionally needing to smack him with Dragonrend, nothing differentiates Alduin from the dozens of same-y dragon fights you've already had over the last hundred hours or more. This could have been alleviated by something as simple as having a unique song play during the fight. This ending sequence is salvageable only because Sovngarde is such a lovely setting / fitting endzone with an amazing soundtrack. At least Harkon and Miraak, while being shit characters plot-wise, provided fairly engaging boss fights.

Gwyn was simultaneously anticlimactic and an amazing ending. You expect some huge epic showdown, and it's really just a somber battle with a tired old man. I love it so much.

In DS3, when Gwyn's theme kicked in in the second phase of Soul of Cinder, I think I teared up. Caught me off guard, and I definitely died as a result lmao

Yu Yevon from FFX. Of course, it's mostly storyline at that point and Braska's Final Aeon is the real final boss, but they could've at least made him seem tough.
