Anyway, involuntary commitment only used when you're a danger to yourself or others. Don't tell them youre suicidal or feel like killing anyone and you'll be fine.

Oh I know it's just I've heard that you can't even remotely suggest feeling like you don't want to be alive (even if you're not going to act on it) without being thrown in there. In some cases - it pretty much just depends on the judgment of the person assessing you.

Yeah I probably will do that. I'm seriously too much of a wuss to act on it, but they don't need to know that or what's holding me back from actually doing it lmao.

You can describe the feelings you're having in a way that don't involve analogies with being dead.

You find it difficult to cope with everyday life and struggle to get through the day. Simple. You don't want to die because of it. You just want things to feel easier.

Hopefully your pcp isnt dumb, most practitioners have varying level of comfortability handling psych issues but managing straight depression or anxiety shouldnt need to go to psych imo

Yeah. I hope so - and I agree with you. There is no reason why standard cases of anxiety and depression need to go straight to psych.

I hope you'll feel better. There are a lot of people here who'll kick people when they're down, but there are just as many of us who would lend you an ear if you needed one. Sometimes a good friend can be just as helpful as a psychiatrist and everyone needs to vent sometimes.

I'm on an antidepressant called Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine). It seems to be the best that I've been on, as far as side effects are concerned. I'm not sure how well it's helped me, tho. I've been on it a few years now.

Okay. Just letting you know that there's no shame in doing so. I've seen a counselor. My best friend is currently seeing a counselor. They can really help you parse your moods and feelings.

Coaching people to control what they say when they need help....seems weird but I know just cause someone is in a profession, it doesn't mean they have your best interest in mind. It's a dilemma

It's normal to feel some anxiety when talking with someone about psych issues, but the last thing you want to do is hide how you truly feel due to fear of being held. If the specialist feels that's what's needed, then chances are they saw something alarming that you didn't see yourself. Be honest with them. Your safety matters.

I talked to a counselor for the first interview yesterday and mentioned suicidal ideation, didn't get committed.

As long as you're clear that you aren't actively planning, it's probably for the best to bring it up. Hiding things from counselors only hurts you.

I get it. Just remember that medication depends on the entire presentation of the patient. Mild depression and severe depression require different treatments, so withholding info may cause you to be on a med that's ineffective for you. You'll be okay .

I have a drawer of Lexapro. Didn't do anything for me but I don't think we had the same problem. I took it for a month and quit. I heard it works for other people.

Just be honest with your counselors and listen to their advice. A lot of people hide things they may be embarrassed about or ashamed of which invalidates the idea of actually seeking help with whatever.

They didnt explain it to me - but its a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Tl;dr increases the amount of serotonin in ur brain

From what I remember from our depression studies you have to straight up say youre going to kill yourself or harm yourself and others around you before they admit you. I dont think expressing occasional suicide thoughts is going to end in admittance

Also depends on the test they utilize

They didn't tell you how you're not suppose to feel it take effect immediately? That it's suppose to be a slow process that can take awhile to feel changes. Which is good because the stuff that immediately takes effect is the addictive stuff.

Cool. I had already used other abusable stuff, which I think made it hard for me to accept this slow process stuff :/. At one point I was depressed and just trying to get something prescribed that would let me numb out and ignore my problems. Thank god I didn't get it before I had a change of heart.

thanks. i honestly feel a bit better that i actually had the strength to even get help. i may find myself to be a worthless piece of fucking shit but you know what? i'm here for a reason and i need to fix myself to the best of my ability. it hurts so badly to even seek mental health services, but i will never heal otherwise.
