i remember budgeting in high school like it's gonna be 600-700 bucks for a little apartment and I can get 50k out of school. sounds good. well now only 8 years later i'm out of school making what i expected but I'm shopping around at $1200-1300 for even a studio apartment and frankly coming up empty handed. and it's the situation country wide as far as I can tell. just what the fuck went wrong here????? totally out of control

It's as bad or worse in the US...or at least many places here at this point.

What was 7-800$ a few years ago is $1000-$1200 now. In a few years. It has never jumped that much so fast in my life..and couldn't before that because the numbers were so much lower

In fact the difference in rental costs in many areas had changed less in 20 years then in the last 4. It's insane.

i'm in some little coastal town in BC. honestly for you guys over 1k for a 2bd in the prairies is probably also indicative of a national problem. and since 2016 I bet it's gotten worse than you think

yeah i've heard that one. so I can take the money i saved on rent to buy a car and keep it insured and full of gas which is quite rapidly rising in price too! definitely gonna come out ahead on that one.

I didn't know Connecticut was in Canadia all this time and I'd spent the first 35 years of my life there...hell 1000ish is a bargain when tiny, illegal studios are going for 1400-1600 easily in my hometown...zzz

Hi, yes, you and I live in BC. It is expensive unless you live in the butt**** north. I live in Victoria, and it is awful and unsustainable. I have worked full time as a pharmacy assistant, ramen bar manager/chef, pizza chef/bar manager, gone away for summer work to Haida Gwaii, and many other jobs in between. I am currently working full time at an opthamologist, and hoping to apply for an IT program at a local college. Life around here is anus unless you can make $25+ an hour. I intend to camperize a van after going to school and move elsewhere.

1300 will get you a tiny ass apartment or 2br basement suite here in BC.

Ya renting sucks, thats why I got a mortgage on a house.
