Current Events > I must admit, I'm slightly disappointed so far with Switch games.

Since buying my Switch in January of this year, I've bought 9 games. I'd say that only 3 of them were great games, that I've got 50+ hours on, and the rest were somewhere between good (but not neccesarily worth spending 50 or something on), and dreadful.

When I had roughly that many games on the Wii U, I'd say 5 or 6 of them were great, and I quickly had many hours on them, and the others were generally quite good. It just feels like something isn't quite good enough on the console. It wouldn't be so bad if the graphics were impressing me, like all of the 8th generation consoles did, but the Switch looks about the same as the Wii U. Of course, there are some games I'm really looking forward to be released, i.e. Pikmin 4 and the new Yoshi, and those will probably be excellent games, but I don't know.

What do other people think? How do you feel about owning a Switch so far? What do you think about the quality of the games? Have they lasted you a long time, or did you play for a week or two then never touch them again?

Same. I like Breath but that's about it and it's not as amazing as it was made out to be around its release, I'm looking forward to Smash though

I don't understand where the great games are. Of course, some stuff has been delayed or is just really taking its time, like Pikmin and Yoshi.

Should I be trying out more obscure games, and seeing what they're like? Should I be playing Rime, or Shovel Knight, or that upcoming Town?

shovel knight is really good, especially if you still like retro games.
hollow knight is also very good.
the switch is mostly for nintendo 1st parties, indies, and playing last gen games portably tbh.

Yeah nothing yet as persuaded me to buy a Switch. Odyssey, Octopath, and Smash are the only Switch games I would absolutely get. There are a couple more that I'd maybe consider. But that's not enough.. The failure of the Wii U still stings for me, so I'm also hesitant to buy another Nintendo console. The Switch obviously won't fail like that, but I guess I'm just bitter.

The problem is probably the lack of 3rd party support. I want to play stuff like COD, and Battlefield, etc. But there hasn't been much, so far. Some high profile releases, like the Crash Bandicoot Trilogy, but not that many.

nobody else is asking to play cod or battlefield on switch. those games would not run without MAJOR downgrades. and people are just playing those games on on xbox, ps4, and pc.
fortnite, however, was a major win for the switch (tho that can be played on an effing cellphone lol)
the switch has already sold over 20 million consoles (its outsold the gamecubes entire life) and its still selling like crazy.
the lack of major AAA 3rd parties is not doing it much harm.

I admit, I thought BotW was excellent, and I wasn't even sure if it would be good. Tons to do, great graphics, nice mix of exploring, puzzling and fighting. Haven't had that much fun in a game in a while. But that was one of, as I said, maybe 3 great games...this is along with Super Mario Oydssey, and Crash Bandicoot Trilogy. Where are other great games? And of course, because I have a Wii U, I've already played an awful lot of stuff like Tropical Freeze, Captain Toad, etc. so it's highly unlikely I'll buy them again.

It's been just over 1 and a half years, so there's still plenty of time for it to be a great console. I don't know, though. I just wish we'd had some better stuff, already.

It's more than a year old. And the second year for a console is often very strong. Look at something like the 360. That's when the console is meant to hit it's stride. But that doesn't to have happened...yet. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm thinking of getting one for Christmas. There's some okay first party titles but I'm more interested in getting indie games I'd get on steam anyway portable

I already played/owned majority of the WiiU games so those are useless for me besides I feel that they're overpriced, I don't do indie games. I enjoyed BotW, Odessey and Mario Party. Out of the Wii U games I just bought MK8 Deluxe which I still play. The new mario tennis game was terrible. Smash is around the corner at least.

the switch is really good if you play indie games. i travel a lot and it's cool to be able to take them back & forth. between AAA first party & indie there's a pretty good selection.

Im personally disappointed. Ive had it almost a year and only played Xenoblade 2 on it. After I finished that (about a month and then a few days for the expansion when it came out) my switch is only on when I check the store updates. Ill probably get Super Mario Odyssey eventually, but I havent seen anything upcoming that Im interested in yet. Everything on it seems to be ports of games I could already play elsewhere. This is the first time a console has felt so dead for me.
