But still, even if it was like 1 out of 3 battles I have to play a ruleset I don't want to that's really bad. It doesn't help that I mostly only end up playing games at around midnight because of my schedule so I already have to do deal with long wait times and poor matchmaking at those hours, but at least I can deal with it since I'm playing what I want. If I end up having to wait forever just for the system to give up and put me in 1v1s with tourny tryhards all the time I probably never even touch online. That sucks.

It's Nintendo doing something with online. Of course it's going to be garbage.

I respectfully disagree. I see more merit in having people be happy a character gets in more than a joke character and think it was the wrong decision.

To me, I actually like that they took a swing at something people didn't expect, and it seems to actually be a pretty decent hit based on initial reactions that aren't people just whining because X didn't get in. It just feels like to me that if they did put in, say, Isaac, people would go "Alright, Isaac! ...But where's Geno this sucks!" Just giving in to the endless list of demands instead of trying something fun like this is just boring and kinda creates more problems than it solves.

We can agree to disagree, though.

I think that, in a game that is 90% about fanservice, criticizing character picks is a very valid thing to do.

There's a reason that Smash Directs like this are such a huge deal. You think people woke up early and took off work to watch a presentation because of Spirits Mode? They came to see which characters were getting in. Smash builds its hype directly off of which characters are getting in. You can't make a huge fucking deal about which characters are Joining The Fight and then expect people not to care mostly about that.

Let me change tactics. Let's say the new characters were:

Metroid
Claptrap
Dry Bones
C. Viper
Charmander

Would you be as excited for this game? Would most people be?

Well, it's not so much an issue with that being how he sees it

It became an issue when he basically said "I don't care if anybody else likes the other characters/stages/modes, I didn't get the character I want" and is arguing that that's a valid criticism of the game itself instead of just a reason for him not to buy it. It's a reason for him not to buy it, and it's fine, but it's not really a valid criticism of the overall game itself.

No characters have been deconfirmed. Not even the ATs (though it doesn't look good for them).

Rex will almost certainly be in at some point. No reason Geno couldn't be in despite being a spirit too.

Also paying full price to play as three characters because you liked them before this game is weird.

Piranha Plant by itself is fantastic but Smash should absolutely not become a roster of generic ass characters. KP is actually making some good points here.

Yeah Yeah Smash fanbase is unpleasable and all that, but that's not the reaction you want your final Direct to be.

They mismanaged expectations like crazy. There's no reason guys like Isaac and Skull Kid shouldn't have been revealed as Assist Trophies BEFORE today, so people could get over it and accept it instead of having hope for months.
