Honestly learning Spanish isn't so bad. It can only help your job opportunities. Nothing detrimental can come from it. Well, that's not really true. I've learned that a lot of Spanish speakers (non-American) will start calling you "my friend" and try and get some free stuff out of you. And there is also the cultural clash where they try and negotiate with you, instead of paying the sticker price.

If it's in the title you can try "-Spanish" (or "-Espanol" as the case may be) in the search, although I think I've tried that in a lot of major job search sites and it doesn't work. But in case you didn't know, putting a minus sign before a certain word in some searches is supposed to exclude it, so there you go.

I'm constantly searching for jobs so I've written my own web scrapers and made a blacklist for certain words. You could try that route if you really don't like the results you're getting, it's kind of a pain to start if you don't know anything about web scraping, but it's nice once you get it working.

A coworker was laid off some years ago and one of her Facebook post later was "I wish I knew Spanish".

That being said, what line-of-work are you looking at getting? I'd imagine anything not related to dealing with the public or international clients wouldn't necessarily be asking for Spanish speakers.

I'd say they should just start mandating Spanish in schools (it's way easier to learn foreign languages at a young age), but Canada doesn't even mandate French education and that's an official language.

It sounds like a good idea, but I'm not so sure. I think it would eventually cause a lot more problems. Then, there are also kids already speaking two languages at a young age. Idk...

When I was in school they mandated either Spanish or French for middle school (high school too, but you could opt out if you were a music major). Can't say I retained any of it though, I learned more Spanish working in a machine shop during college then I ever did in a classroom.

medical assisting, i need to find another job because our manager is a fucking lunatic, but all jobs i see online want spanish speakers, which makes sense because most of our patients are hispanic, and a lot of them cant speak any english at all.
