In his defense he is only 7 and a half, but he never wants to try anything. Food that was in an oven is too hot to eat until it goes cold, the water slides at the pool are too scary, He tried playing video games with me last night. Rage quit mario bros because he couldn't beat the first level by just running through the koopas and the goombas, complained that getting last in mario kart 50cc wasn't fair, although he started having fun with it when he realized he could just not touch the buttons and place higher.

Is this normal for a 7 year old or is he just that lazy? I remember playing games younger than that and getting a lot farther or failing at it, at least trying longer and having fun failing.

It's an effect of so many kids just watching videos etc since they were 4 or younger at this point. They don't even play games etc, they just watch others play them. Even older kids (up to 15 or so) often watch Lets plays or Twich etc, instead of actually playing a game (even though they have the game and or system).

So yeah, sadly it is normal or at least not rare at this point.

Sounds like's a product of the mentality that everyone is a winner without needing to do anything.

And you think an uncle forcing him to play a game till "he gets it right", makes the game anymore fun?

I'm not forcing him to do anything. I wanted to watch a movie. But I was playing Mario Bros on the switch when he came so he wanted to join. Then after rage quiting he saw Mario kart and wanted to play that and then wouldn't stop wanting to play even though at that point he was just watching the computer control his character.

my nephew is 6 and can already beat SMB1 1-1. His problem is more with attention span. He does get frustrated if he can't win, but even if he can win he wants a different game after 5 minutes. He doesn't get that you can stick with one game and eventually beat it and master it.

He can also play Minecraft with an XBox 360 controller, though only barely and with me helping him. He definitely prefers simpler games.

what's really amazing is my 2 year old nephew. he's like 13 months old, but is so smart it's almost scary. he can't speak yet but instead he can communicate with hand gestures and facial expressions. he can't game yet but he understands the concept and always asks for a controller to use.

He'll probably grow out of it if he's forced to

I was a lazy fuck at that age too (not as lazy, I would actually try at video games) but im much better now and have a pretty good work ethic

What Wolfy said.

I beat DKC by myself by the time I was 6 or 7. Make whatever judgement you will, but I had perserverance when it came to things I enjoyed doing.

For most of my life I've known I'm a lazy person, like a tree. Not bad lazy, just I'm not going to leap through stupid and poorly designed hoops to conform into a terribly organized system of cooperation designed as competition. The same system that disguises warmongering as capitalism in order to ensure one person remains on top (fortnite).

I'm lazy in the sense that I exist and act from the lowest energy state possible while maintaining a strict vigilance on what I'm sensing, feeling and thinking as Nature intended while desiring that me and others can enjoy a pleasurable existence, working together in that goal, while being ready and capable to complete any number of tasks at the drop of a dime to ensure such an existence.v

It sounds like your nephew needs to learn that Nothing will be given to him if he isn't willing to work for it.
