Just made it through episode 7, and I will finish the series up tomorrow with 8,9, and 10. It's bedtime, but it was definitely captivating enough for me to binge through 7 episodes tonight

Great storytelling, great at building suspense. Called it a night after ep. 5 but you better believe that all I'm gonna be thinking about today is how soon I can get home and finish this. Loving it so far.

It keeps up. 5 might be the best episode of the series but it remains really strong.

I just finished it last night. Its the best Netflix original in at least a year and probably the best horror miniseries Ive ever seen, including stranger things. Great casting. Great acting. They were light on the jump scares but still kept drama and suspense throughout. I was a little let down by the ending but that doesnt stop it from being a 10/10 show. As I read more about it it seems like I missed a ton of Easter eggs.

I liked the ending but I get why people may have wanted more, in terms of how it wasnt a scary ending.

My problem with the ending wasnt that it wasnt scary, but it was too happily ever after. To me it just didnt feel like it lined up with the rest of the show. I was almost expecting a Hamlet style ending where everyone dies. Instead its shown the house is still standing, only the dad dies, the ghosts are friendly (or at least non-aggressive), and all the siblings get their shit together. I just kinda felt like a bleak ending for at least some of the characters was more fitting given the themes of the show watching this house break the family. I still think the show is 10/10 despite this but kinda wanted it to be taken in another direction.

See I interpreted the ending as pretty dark. Even the couple who maintained the house was ultimately lured back into the house to die and have their souls stuck there forever (at the end). It played happy music over it, but that house was still doing what it does. It doesn't have forgiveness or remorse, it just tricks and feeds. Sure some of the family survived, but the cost of that was the souls of Liv, Hugh, and Nell who will be stuck there for eternity. That thought alone just urks me.

It was a little happily ever after, KINDA, but the house still ultimately killed 3/7 members of the family. Not exactly yaaay

I wouldnt say the ghosts as a rule were friendly, they just mostly retained who they were when the house killed them. Poppy was batshit psycho, Olivia still only chose not to kill her children when Hugh promised to die for her, etc. Its just that the house itself was more of the villain than a specific ghost.

I mostly agree but I think the Dudleys chose intentionally to die there. Its still dark, but she wanted to be claimed to be with her children rather than go to whatever afterlife there is, which is a pretty remarkable choice for someone so Christian. Maybe thats still a win for the house but it was chosen willingly.

That said, yeah, the ghosts dont seem entirely miserable if they have company but theyre also still trapped there forever. Part of me hopes the kids visit willingly like Hugh and the Dudleys did, part of me hoped they never go back.

That's the thing though. While we don't know for sure, I don't think it was chosen willingly in the way you're saying.

I think she was lured there by the house via her daughter over the years, and tricked, same as everyone else. Liv also "chose" to attempt to poison her kids to "save" them. She wouldn't have really chosen that though. She was manipulated and tricked.

Finished out the series tonight. I hope they do another horror show with this caliber and not just a quick sequel (*cough Stranger Things cough*). They should make this their AHS.

Just make it another setting. You could even use the same cast just like AHS but don't fuck up a great season with a quick sequel.

How many liberties does it take when compared to the book? Really didn't like the novel much because it's told from "Nell's" PoV and she sucks.
