worked 38 hrs 4 mins last week, will probably work about 34 hrs this week. free time I have is for interweb stuff, playing pokemon heart gold, laundry, and relaxing for the next day of work.

most days I work 9am to 3pm, but there are two days that I'll work 7am to 3pm (give or take staying late till 4pm)

This.

Having worked 40 hour weeks for a long time though, that also sucks. I mean when you add in the mandated half-hour minimum lunch break, plus time commuting/getting ready in the morning (of which I'd say I took a pretty minimum amount), and just decompressing a little bit when you get home before you really do anything, it's really like 50 hours of your week being occupied by work in some way. Our working culture in America sucks.

It depends on what you classify as work.

In office: 8-5 at the minimum, frequently leave the office after 5 but before 6.
At home; I tend to do work at home to supplement work. 1-2 hour frequently, infrequently more.
I will frequently put in 8 hours over the weekend. Work is a bit of a lul atm because we're between releases with only a few small bugs to resolve.

tldr: 45 hours in office, 7-14 outside of the office but frequently more than that. Total would be around 60 hours wk.

Too much free time. If I got paid for more than 40 hours a week I'd probably work 80.

Definitely more than 40.

Most of it is because I'm expected to stay behind and do some dispatching and whatever else each day.

Nowadays, I can't work more than eight hours a week because of my school schedule and because I must do homework. It's a shame, because I really wanted to fill in that twenty-five hundred and eighty-dollar hole in my bank account that I made by dropping then re-adding a class. I am fully aware that I won't be able to have as much money in my bank account as I did had I not dropped then re-added Vector Analysis, but I still want the feeling of having as much money as I did before the horrible incident that was a result of my lack of rational decision-making abilities. I know I don't have student debt, so I really don't have a right to complain about losing money, but it still hurts. :(

I guess the reason I ask is because next week I will be starting my first real job after graduating last May, but it is very likely I will be working 50+ hours a week. And while I am definitely excited, I'm not sure I am prepared to transition into this sort of work-life balance without it just making my depression worse. I don't know, I am just worried, but excited to finally be doing something substantial and making real money too.

Ya, where I am it's safe. We have enough policies and procedures in place that you shouldn't get hurt unless you're bypassing shit.

That makes sense though, I have a friend who's a pilot that does a 7-7 rotation

On a normal week, probably around 52-53. That's if I just work my one job. On a really heavy week, it could be like 88. But that's between 2 jobs, so I'm not working backwards... It can get pretty tiring. And I wish I had more free time...

I wish but I'm gonna be an exempt/salary employee so overtime is expected and unpaid, but the job itself does pay very well and a good $5-15k a year more than some of the other jobs I have interviewed for over the past few months.

40 hours per week. I'm fine with amount of free time. It's when I have it that I'm not thrilled about.

I get Monday and Tuesday off. I work from 130pm to 10 PM. I'm ok with the days off since the woman that I just started seeing has the same days. But I'd really like to work earlier.

They only want to pay for a single shift of extra security so I'm stuck working until closing every night. Several of the employees said the store starts closing an hour earlier after the time change so I'm looking forward to that.
