White Trailer Trash Home Owners in Illinois were forced to remove their offensive "halloween" decoration from their front yard that depicted a Black Man being LYNCHED from a tree!!

37 y/o Toya Griffin is her neighbor and was on the phone with her 15 y/o daughter whenshe says shenoticed the visual hanging outside in Lansing.

The teen is a sophomore at Thornton Fractional South who told her mom she saw a black mannequin hanging with his hands and ankles tied and was hanging in a tree near their sidewalk. She took a picture and took down the address and noticed that the house was decorated for Halloween.

She called the police and an officer came out and at first said he "didn't see anything wrong with it"

Griffin's sister then went to the tree and a group of irate neighbors gatehred around and confronted the heifer who lived there and said "Do you see anything wrong with this?"

The woman refused to take down and said "I have friends who are black. Free speech lady"

Police then said she claimed a JASON MASK was on the mannequin but "somebody stole it" and all that remained on the head was a plain black plastic bag although it doesnt explain why his arms were black either

Do you believe her when she says it's supposed to be "Jason"?.

The funny thing about this whole situation is that, had she said something along the lines of "It wasn't meant to be racist" or "Skin color wasn't on our minds when we hung the decoration up", I'd have totally believed her. Hell, even with the whole "Free speech lady" line, I'd have respected her for being upfront about how she felt.

But then she pulled the "I have black friends" card and, as if that wasn't enough, tried to pass off a decoration that looked nothing like Jason Voorhees as Jason Voorhees. Yeah that silly little moo cow is definitely racist and, on top of that, was too much of a punk to admit she was when being confronted about it.

Well, the provided image of Jason *does* have him look a little darker even if he's not supposed to be black (he's got black gloves on which might be part of the effect) and parts of decorations certainly do get stolen -- and I'm sure a thief would find it funnier that way, too. However, even if it wasn't Jason, I'm pretty sure they're free to hang it anyway although it'd be an offensive gesture. I'm kinda inclined to believe their story because anybody racist enough to publicly hang an effigy of a black man wouldn't lie about it.

They have other color trash bags besides black..., if she put on the classic Jason mask then I think people wouldn't have said shit.

Even in that case Jason is not known for being hung as far as I know, though I will admit I don't watch those movies.

Never saw Jason wear a white t-shirt and jeans in any of the movies. Never saw him hanged with his hands tied behind his back either. The least you could do would be cover the arms, throw a burlap sack over his head and say it was Jason from Part 2.

Man that is the biggest straw-man ever, lady is racist period. She is likely one of those that doesn't think she's racist because she isn't a member of the KKK or doesn't go around yelling at black people and calling them racial slurs.

I was just pointing out most incarnations of Jason is white why the fuck would you use a black trash bag to represent the head. This is almost like if I wanted to make a Superman figure on my lawn and I used black to represent the skin color.

It is indeed easy to call people stupid for thinking that hanging an effigy of a black man from a tree as a halloween decoration is okay. Such people tend to be pretty stupid, after all. Playing devil's advocate is all well and good, and can be a fun intellectual exercise, but when that means defending somebody who depicted a lynched black man as a festive decoration, it's probably time to stop.

Hanging a black person from a tree is specifically meant to invoke the image of black people being lynched, thereby making it a racially targeted threat (i.e. hate speech). Hanging anyone else from a tree is just hanging a person. Hanging non-black people is still bad, obviously, but it doesn't carry any specific threatening connotations, and is consistent with the morbid themes that are common in halloween decorations.
