The ones that run, at least. I've talked to a lot of people about this, but everyone always has different answers. I would figure that it's because everyone's body is different, and everyone has different starting and ending points. But I would like to hear from PotD on what helps them to improve their running speed, stamina (for running), and just overall running in general/

30/60s or 60/120s always worked the best for me when I was trying to get my run time down.

When I was a kid I was always the fastest in class but as I got older in high school I ended up losing my speed and ended up being an endurance runner instead so I think it might depends on your natural ability and good ol' fashioned practice.

run

I do this, but it never seems to help much just running...

It won't work. I would do something different than just run...

I normally do something like this near the end on my running sessions.

I was actually the same way. I was always one of the fastest as a kid, but now, I do endurance, as well. Like, as long as I'm listening to music, I can run for probably a couple of hours. Maybe longer. But the problem goes back to I need to be able to run faster. At least until I get a little older...

You sprint for the shorter period and jog/walk for the longer period. So sprint for 30 seconds at full speed and then jog for 60 seconds. Then repeat the cycle or go for like 20 minutes

Interval workouts (run fast for a period, then rest to partially recover before going again) are great for increasing speed. If your goal is to get a good time in a specific race then you should also plan to taper your workouts as race day approaches. Start out your training period with an emphasis on long runs to improve cardio, then gradually add more intervals and shorter runs to your routine as race day approaches.

Depends entirely on if you're trying to increase speed as a sprinter or as a long-distance runner.

Back in high school when I sprinted, I did a fair amount of weight training in the gym, then did stuff like plyometrics and hill-running. But that's less useful if you're working your way up to a 5k or a marathon or the like.

I coach track and field and cross country at my school. I'm no pro, and I've only been doing this for 3 years, but here's what I've found works well.

Are you looking for increased sprint speed? Like for under 400m? The earlier advice about sprinting in bursts and then jogging is good. Form plays a bigger role than you might think. Look up some videos for sprinting form. There's a "feel" to a true sprint; you'll feel like you're making very efficient contact with the ground with each step.

For speed in long distance, you first need to work on endurance. Spend a few weeks doing 3-5 km runs at a jogging pace 3 or 4 times per week depending on your fitness level. By the third week, start working on faster pace runs.

It's hard to explain in writing. Watch some videos on YouTube, and run lots. As a coach, I bought the USA Track and Field Association beginner coaching manual. There are lots of ideas in there.

I ran track for six years. I was the only white kid on the team. That meant I was the slowest kid on the team. I worked on my form, I worked on my stamina, and I ran long distance. My only events were the 1500 and the 3000, I also threw shotput, discus, and javeline.

By the end of it, I was close to junior olympics at every event, and was the FIFTH Slowest kid on my team! (Team included girls, the four I was better than were girls.)

I tried to buy the Pegasus Boots, but they won't sell them anymore because some guy kept using them to chase Cuccos and run into trees/building. No frame skips because they consider that cheating. Shift key keeps slowing me down because it keeps asking if I want to enable sticky keys. I don't have time to raise the Athletics that high. I tried running faster, but it just won't work. And I'm black, so I should be able to run really well(and I can), but it's just hard for this specific thing I have to do...

Depends what type of running you're talking about. Training for short sprint type races is entirely different than training for distance running. But the first thing I'd ask is, why are you trying to improve your running speed? Are you planning on competing in some form of running event?

It's just for my PT test. So, it's only a mile and a half run in a certain amount of time. I'm always on the line between passing and failing.

If it's just that, I would recommend starting with something like a 1/2 mile run, keeping the pace you need to do in order to make time for the longer run. Once that's easy, increase the distance slowly over time until you're running 2 miles in the time you need to run 1.5. Then you'll be ahead of the curve and not need to worry about barely passing.
