Pikmin 4
Metroid Prime 4
Animal Crossing 4
etc

If you can't show footage then the game basically doesn't exist to the consumer.
So many games get canned in the early stages or end up in development hell and come out years later.

How many years ago was Pikmin 4 namedropped at an E3?

I agree. Pikmin 4 makes me furious. It was first announced in 2015, I think, and it was apparently almost finished, and 3 years later, it hasn't even had any footage shown, or a release date. AC4 and MP4, admittedly, I barely care about (if at all).

Mainline Animal Crossing is probably my favorite Nintendo series behind Mario and Zelda at this point.
Just because New Leaf was so good and left me wanting more, but not wanting me to go back.

I play most nintendo games and I'll definitely get Pikmin 4, but I still haven't beaten Pikmin 3 (I'm on the last boss, collected all the fruit in the game tho I think).

I feel like Pikmin 3 was so fresh, and didn't really leave me thinking there had to be a 4th game. Especially since the series really isn't progressing that interestingly.

I don't think having three commanders really changes the game that much and I'm not really sure what new mechanics that they could add to 4 to make the game feel different without ruining the game

I thought Pikmin 3 was probably the best Wii U game. I admit, though, I don't know what they'll do next. They shouldn't introduce new Pikmin, just new types of puzzles, maybe a new mode. And they should keep the difficulty incredibly high, because that was part of the fun, and what makes the game long.

The thing is, Nintendo fans have stopped thinking recently. All they want is Smash. It's like nothing else exists.

?
City Folk was a disaster. It added very little and the City was extremely shallow and just centralized a large portion of the game that already existed in Wild World.

New Leaf adding the mayor role and Public Works Projects were genius. It allowed us to really take control over our towns and customize them to our liking. It allowed us to be more creative etc.

Happy Home Designer was barely a game, but I like the direction the series has been taking towards increased customization, options etc

I can't really think of a flaw with New Leaf except for the feature that lets you order furniture from people you streetpassed with, with hurts the novelty of collecting them through the game

You know, I've got Animal Crossing for the GC, which I think is the second in the series, and I played for less than 5 hours before becoming really bored. All I seemed to do was shake trees and dig random patches, and the play environment was really small. I never saw the appeal of the series.

That's not saying much. The Wii U only had a handful of exclusive good games.

Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, what else?

It didn't even get it's own 3D Mario game, it's own Animal Crossing, Metroid, F-Zero or Zelda game. It was a complete disaster in every sense.

I count BoTW more as a Switch game at this point and just consider the Wii U version as pity from Nintendo for the people who actually bought the Wii U.

It's a slow burn. You can only play the game like 30 minutes a day before running out of things to do.

It's about the progress you make over time towards your house, town, assets and relationships with your villagers

and it's about experiencing the different holidays, seasons and events. The game is constantly changing, the game is full of random daily events etc

It's like the ultimate collectathon chill game

No 3D Mario game? What about Super Mario 3D World?

And there were plenty of really good exclusive games. Tropical Freeze, StarFox Zero, MK8, and Captain Toad, NSMBU, plus the ones you mentioned.

Nitendo has stated that they want games to be live longer through DLC or something like that. I forget the exact words.

The insane money potential of the island invalidates the village as a place to explore for cash which fucks up a core piece of Animal Crossing gameplay, that being interacting with NPCs as you're on the prowl

Re-Tail was an unnecessary split of the supermarket that does little but take up space and divide your traveling

Blathers dialogue neutered and other 'streamlining' decisions that make dumping shit into drains faster but cripples the actual experience of the game

Dialogue repeats all the time

Making the player mayor elevates you in importance above the other villagers and diminishes the feeling of being just another person in a different world

Focusing on the ability to micro-manage the player's village misses the point; it was never about building a furry dollhouse town, it was about experiencing the interactions and mysteries in a small space, day by day, interacting with the villagers and important NPCs. Making a ton of money sinks be the main new attraction of the game just encourages boring farming by shoving a bunch of costs on top of your expenses from the previous games.

the stores were split in every game. Even in City Folk, Able Sister's was disconnected from the city.

Re-Tail is a better solution to a problem posed by City Folk, in that it would be annoying for players to travel all the way to the city just to sell stuff in their pocket.

The reason why it still sucked is because the Able Sister's actually sold shit, so if you wanted to shop at all the stores at once, you couldn't.
But you couldn't in any of the games, because even in the original the stores were spaced apart.

EXCEPT in New Leaf. ReTail doesn't actually sell anything. So your criticism doesn't even make sense.

Like Retail didn't split the supermarket in any way. It doesn't sell anything or offer any feature that was apart of Nooks.

It's an auction house, a place to customize your furniture, and a place to sell your shit, so you can sell fast and conveniently.

I'm not sure what your alternative to Retail is. Have the player be able to sell from their pocket?
Because you can't seriously thinking walking out of your town to go to the city just to sell fish you caught is a good idea.

yeah, City Folk was a complete disaster.

Wild World sold 12 million copies. Then City Folk came out on Wii, a huge hit of a console, and only sold 4.32 million copies.

They didn't add anything substantial to the game. It was basically a worse, lazy rehash of wild world only with superficial changes like the city, which like I mentioned, offered nothing not in Wild World. It simply pushed it all to one place and put a pretty bow on it.

New Leaf redeemed the series, got back to 12 million in sales again.

???
You don't have to go to the city to sell your shit. Tom Nook's store is there in the village with you. You went to Able Sister's for clothes, but Tom Nook let you sell anything with no problem and also had most of the things you tended to buy.

In New Leaf, the only point of Re-Tail outside its auction gimmick is that you're not penalized for selling there; the game slaps you down for selling to Timmy & Tommy with a varying penalty. They could have just set Nook's store and Able's in its place like all the old games. Instead it comes off as a completely needless addition. They nerfed selling power at T&T just to make Re-Tail necessary in your life.

I never said you had to go to the city, I'm saying if they didn't split a store from the city, then you'd have to. What difference does it make if Retail that is the store in the town vs Nook's?

Doesn't it make more sense for a mega mall like nooks to be in the city?

As for the nerf, there are still plenty of reasons to go to Nooks. Namely, to buy things.

I don't know how you can say that traveling was more divided in AC and WW. In those games there is a definitive one-stop shop to sell and buy from. Even in City Folk, the point of the city is that the things to do there are more esoteric anyway, nothing there is necessary for the normal play of previous games. In New Leaf, you cannot just go to Nook's store with things in your inventory with the intent to sell them and then buy stuff, because the game arbitrarily nerfs T&T's sell prices to make Re-Tail more necessary. That's silly. They divided the very acts of buying and selling into two locations.

the problem isn't Re-Tail, it's the shitty main street centralizing everything, the various stores and the like should be strewn throughout the town

also, shocker: most fans do only care about the dollhouse and chore simulator, but you gotta have both, or there's no dopamine flowing as seen with HHD's reception
