Hopefully all the master files have been destroyed and all the developers involved have been hunted down like animals and forced to pay for their crimes against humanity.



The only thing it had going for it when it came out was the graphics, and those look like complete ass now.

It would need a massive overhaul with them completely re-doing all of the in-game graphics and cutscenes, and that would probably cost more money than they'd be willing to invest - especially considering how many people have negative opinions of the game.

At least with FFVII they can justify trying to completely update it because people have been begging for it for years, so they assume it will sell like crazy.

(Of course, with ALL of the changes they're making, and doing stuff like breaking it up episodically, may result in a lot fewer people buying it after all, but that's Squeenix for you.)

Yeah... in general Squeenix seems to have been horribly mismanaged for the past, oh I don't know, 15+ years? It's kind of amazing they're still in business given all the bad decisions they've made.

The whole square/enix merger was terribly bungled and led to the wrong folks being in charge honestly

No they aren't. They announced the release of 7, 9, 10/10-2 and 12 for Switch and Xbox, but not 8.

VIII was my first FF so I have a soft spot for it but I understand peoples issues with the game. Still sucks though that they just havent rereleased it at all compared to the other games. Its weird having one entry be missing just for completeness.

I like it, but it's not my fav - I'll defend the Junction system, since it's the replacement for grinding... I just stare when people say the game is too easy when you have max spells, like, DERR, you're legit the max level analogue at that point.

But it does have some serious problems. For starters, the tutorials are too long and blatant - we don't need a tutorial on how to open the other tutorials (yes, that's a thing).

There are some quality of life changes that could work. For example, since your party is always at most 3 and any time you can swap parties you can also swap GF - there's no reason for the game to have the swap mechanic at all! Just have the junctions based on party position... there's only one point in the game where this isn't the case, and it's for what is essentially a single boss fight.

Disc 1 is really good. The pacing is right. But that's it. Starting on Disc 2 it's like purgatory with only the ending of Disc 2 being any good. Disc 3 is like limbo ... a timeless blink while you wait for Disc 4 to load...

Which makes it worth it again! The final dungeon is really good. One of the better final dungeons in the series.

Yeah, I would like to have it just for completeness too. Also, I would like a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics. There was that remaster of FFT on PSP, but nothing on consoles.

I still like Final fantasy 8 more than 5. What really missing is Final Fantasy Tactics.(they need to port FFT to switch and Xbone, steam)

8 also had some pretty good music. I have no idea how the hell I beat FF8 at mid level 20's, I must have insane patience.

There was a recentish PC rerelease they did for ff8 (probably not THAT recent, but I remember seeing it on steam within like the past year), I distinctly recall it because it featured several kinds of boosters, such as one that gave you a free supply of 100 of various kinds of magic.

I highly doubt anything was lost.

they need to remake these games without the crappy black loading screens not port them

On top of that, they built in cheat codes to the menu to just gives yourself a bunch of spells and stuff. It's like they're tacitly admitting that the battle system is bullshit.

I love ff8 but i admit it has its flaws.

Like a major flaw is how in 7 you knew of sephiroth from early on and he was this badass villian you were chasing. There was buildup to the inevitable clash. With ultimecia....nah.

But i still love it. Mu favorite? I dont know.

Doesnt ff7 have a similar thing by giving you free stuff?

In ff8(never used it) but all it gives you iirc is some basic magic. Not enough to get you very far on it alone. I recall 7 making it so you didnt even have to actually play.

they do that with all the pc versions of final fantasies on steam

8 should have been remade instead of 7. Lower expectations for 8 make it more likely to impress (and it needed it more). It will be impossible to not have people disappointed by 7.

Ps4 and XV board seems to think its something to due with copyright issues for some song. But eh whatever it is i hope they get it on Ps4 eventually. My favorite of the series.

Most likely. There is still a copyright issue for "Eyes on Me", which apparently was originally part of an album by Faye Wong. Yes, it was composed by Nobuo Uematsu, but he's no longer working for Square Enix (since 2004).

They'd also have to deal with "EMI Group Ltd.", who technically owns distribution rights of that song now. :P
