Granted, I am only a few hours into the game, but so far the primary objective boils down to Help The Cops. Not just any cops, either, but the NYPD specifically, because the game takes place in a true-to-life rendering of New York City. Its dumb to expect video games to be responsible reflections of real life, but it is also impossible, for me at least, to not feel some ickiness about the game forcing me into cahoots with even a fictionalized version of the NYPD, an organization that routinely oppresses some of the most vulnerable residents of the city I live in.

What this new game does is put Spider-Man up on a perch where he doesnt belong. Hes no longer performing heroic deeds out of just the goodness of his heart, but also for the purpose of solidifying the existing power structures grip on the city.

And he looks exactly how you'd expect lmao

I mean,

every super hero story within a fictional mega city (in this case Spider-man does live in NYC) has its share of corruption within the legal system.

Batman is the most famous example of vigilantism taking matters into his own hands to help the city and the bright spot (Commissioner Gordon) within the PD.

Spider-man is doing the same thing, albeit without the vigilante tag. He's helping the GOOD GUYS and the people who need help.

When these towers are repaired they allow the NYPD to monitor all citizens within a certain radius of the tower, and for Spider-Man to get real-time updates on happenings within the city via an uplink with the towers.

There have been several continuities where he works with local law enforcement. There are current runs where he still avoids them. No matter what angle you tackle this from, both the version you know and the version that's been done for decades still persist today.

Meh, there's almost certainly some variation of each. Calling him wanted might be much but I thought of him as more of a people's hero for the underdogs, maybe a few cops here and there like him but mostly his status works against him.

This is quite groan inducing. Spider-Man helps Yuri, and by extension the NYPD, not the NYPD specifically, she is the only one he trusts, and likewise, and she is the only one he is truly attempting to help. Hell, several times during gameplay he remarks about leaving the scene before the police show up because hes never quite sure how they will respond to him. I get its cool and woke to hate on cops, but this seems dumb, theyre fictional, digital police, that regularly fight psychos dressed in animal themed powered suits. Save this shit for the real world, video games are an escape.
