It is a nice side thing. Worth the 200 gold, especially since that's pretty easy to grind.

(Part 2...)

Okay, so his expressions were worrying me, right? "The costumer's always right". "Yeeeah, this looks like a poor dude brainwashed by the system he works for". I made the attempt of talking to him once I bought the ice-cream-like-food which name I don't remember, but he was still hesitant. I asked for life advice, and I found out he was 19. "Monsters age differently, right?..." I kept talking to him and he told me this shameful story about some burgers that he wanted to give to some girls, but everything turned out bad to the point where the por guy was called, you guessed it, Burgerpants. He said they were up the alley-way, so I naturally wanted to get to them. I remember that the girls asked for a Glamburger, BUT I didn't have just enough money to afford one, so yeah... I knew I had to get some gold, although given how most previous areas are filling up pretty quickly with friendly monsters, I knew it wasn't going to be so easy. Nevertheless, I went down, then went right, to the location of Heatsman... Flames... Darn it! I didn't want to enter the elevator previously since I thought that was the next way to go, but... turns out it wasn't. Instead, it connected me back to every other previously-visited area. That's when I thought the Glamburger was the key to advance.... It would've been weird if so, since it seemed like a detail that could easily be forgotten or missed, so that was my first suspition that it wasn't really the way to go. Eh, I still went ahead and looked for enemies in Hotland (I called Paps and Dyne on my way, but they really didn't have anything worthy or different to say), until I finally ran into two Pyropes. I spared them and noticed I had 30/20 HP. Then I decided to visit Snowdin first to see if my pals had any other worthwhile thing to say or do... But no.

I finally got to the alley-way and show them the Glamburger. Eventually the whole Burgerpants thing popped up, so I went back to the poor guy's shop and told him everything. They found him weird but cute (at least Catty), although they also had some kind of superiority complex. They were still nice though, nice enough to invite him to hang out... at the dumpster. The dude was a little let down, but it took it positively.

Great! So... I don't know what else to do now. I've already done this, and I don't know where to go. I talked to the monsters in the lobby again just so I could remember their information. Speaking of which, I saw a slime that remembered me a lot of Dracula's daughter in those Hotel Transylvania movies (what was her name again? I haven't really seen the movies but I can at least identify her). Turns out, I hadn't explored the whole building just yet. I only had to go up. That was all. It was nice though since I could at least do the Burgerpants side-quest before advancing.

I called my pals and they were saying good-bye to me. I saw some weird shadows, which quickly hid afterwards. Alphys guided me through. I didn't know whether to continue or not, but I did anyway.

I was being interrupted in this whole section, so I couldn't advance more, but the room had three ways: elevator, left and right. Alphys told me to go to the elevator, so naturally I disobeyed her and went left to see what happened (lol). "Where are you going?, she said. I battled a mage and went ahead. I deactivated some lasers,, not without getting hurt; then I went back to see what there was on the right path I hadn't previously gone. There were flames. Yeah, that's it. So okay, fine, I went to the elevator and turns out it isn't working and Alphys found it to be quite strange. I went left again, passed the lasers and stumbled upon a crossroads. "Go right!" "Uh... Okay, I'm gonna listen to her just this time". "No, better go up!" "Okay". I battled a guard that killed me, so I decided to stop there.

Notes:

-I previously had 30/20 HP, but once I closed the game and reopened it, when I battled in the maze, I was at 20/20 again. I thought that was not a good move from the game.
-I died a couple of times there, so mostly I cut to the chase and tried different paths. I went right first, to the flames, and Alphys told me there was a gap. "Ohhhh..." Well, not very informative, but there it was. The thing that surprised me was that she had something else to say when I went left after checking the elevator, so that made me think how carefully Toby Fox programmed everything to make it feel more realistic and foresee all of these possibilities -- something I would certainly struggle with as a programmer.
-The guard I battled was a she, not a "they" or whatever. You know, if you really want to hide a person's gender, better call it an "it", because not only does "they" sound weird (at least to me), but also a monster can be an "it", and Frisk can also be considered an "it" by the monsters if they really just look at... it without assuming any gender.

It's not just common, its the correct grammatical term for it even.

There's also weirder ones like ze/hir/hirs but I've never actually heard anyone use those IRL

It's probably just my English education since I always used (and was always taught) "they" as a third person plural noun.

Anyway, I'm trying to speed things up so you don't have to wait several days for me to post something. If you have any feedback on my speed or writing, as well as advice on what I could do to improve on those things to optimize them, you're welcome to do so. I'm still playing later today.

Day 20: The Core: The anteroom of uncertainty
Time spent: 30 mins.

Going up from the hotel, I made my way to the Core once more. I called Paps and Dyne one more time and proceeded.

In my last two attempts, I went left, and to the elevator, respectively. This time I went right: "Why aren't you taking the elevator? Well, I guess this path is ok... But wait, it has a huge gap". So I went left, got past a Madjick, and proceeded through the lasers. Alphys said that the lasers started with orange, but I quickly forgot about it, so when I saw blue, blue, orange, instead, I stood still without knowing if I was actually going to get hurt (like last time) or not, but when I realized I wasn't hurt, I quickly reacted to avoid the orange laser and succeeded. "Are you hurt?", Alphys said (same dialogue as my last attempt). She then told me to go right, so I naturally went up since last time I actually went right; I fought the Knight knight and Alphys said: "Why didn't you go right? You trust me, d-d-don't you?" (Nice job, Toby. I'm impressed). I went right and faced a Brand new rea.

So more lasers, huh? They're always fun (I like that they require you to have simple-yet-good reflexes). I was even tempted to try to dodge them when I faced them directly in my "soul" form. Anyway, Alphys couldn't turn them off, so I went ahead and did the work myself, although I felt nice being guided/helped once more. (She is so lovable.)

I saved after being surrounded by the smell of ozone... Actually, I have no clue as to what does ozone smell like. Alphys couldn't guide me anymore, so I was practically on my own now. I had to choose between three paths: North, West and East. The East one was the way to "The End", while the other two were apparent prolongations. "Uh... Uhhh..." I went West, but I went back and wanted to check out "The End" (I somehow assumed that it was going to "end" right there, thus taking the fun out of exploring the other paths; but no, it was just a blocked road. I spent some time exploring the places, going West first. On the way, I saw the giant ice blocks that cooled off the Core. "Solve this puzzle and The End will open". Well, I did just that. I don't really know how I did it (like many of the puzzles of this kind I did back in Hotland). It didn't take that much time, so it was cool. [...]

[...] Afterwards, I went back to "The End" to check if the road was actually open, or if I needed to complete the northern puzzle first, but the road was opened either way. There was a sabe point, but I still wanted to go back and see what the rest of the rooms here had to give. So I reached the northern rea and went through a bridge where I encountered some unavoidable enemies. The fighting was intense, but I managed to pull it off with patience and skillz. Astigmatism is actually a pretty interesting foe since it's not like the rest of the enemies where you have to Act in a specific way in a hit-or-miss manner. Instead, every option is useful depending on the circumstances, and I find that to be quite satisfying. The variety of every monster's attacks while keeping the balance for each of them in multi-battles is pretty good. I somehow managed to get every desired outcome for each of the enemies' responses, which was also pretty satisfying. I finally reached a switch, which I turned off, but in the end it seemed that it really didn't do anything at all. My theory is that you can reach "The End" by simply going either North or West, but I 100% did it anyway, and it was worth it (I earned lots of Gold too).

Many of the writings on the wall really seemed like overly cryptic messages. Like, if you just want to say I have no chance against you, wall-writer, just cut to the chase and say it outright. I have no problem... unless you're Mettaton. Then you should probably stay away from me. Anyway, I kept exploring every posible room. At one time I actually got the exclamation point indicating an enemy encounter, but it happened at just the right frame where you have a screen transition, so I skipped it entirely. I even went back and tried to do that and see if it was a warning of some kind, but I guess it was just a glitch. Then I went ahead and found a trash can with 100G. "Take it?" "Sure!" So I emptied the trash can and pretty much stole 100G, something Lily (a.k.a. pacifist Frisk) probably wouldn't do... Although it was on the trash, so nobody would be interested in that, would they?... Um, I guess this is one of those things that can really affect the outcome of some future dialogue. Either way, I stumbled upon another trash can with a Glamburger. "Take it?" "Uh... Well, I just grabbed the Gold, so I might as well grab the burger too".

Finally, I went back to "The End" again and saved. I used the elevator, but it only transported me back to the beginning. "Noo! What a trollish move! I have to do everything all ov... Wait...", I used the elevator again and went back up. "Phew!" It was actually a convenient thing, but I really didn't have a reason to go back. Well, maybe going to the hotel and max out my HP before going back, but I'm just before the room with what I think will be Asgore's throne or something like that. I decided to stop there.

Total time: 771:45

I'm going to rest.

What do I expect from this particular playthrough? Well, naturally I expect to see Asgore. And I don't think he'll be a pushover as Papyrus said. Like, at all. He wants my soul, after all. I expect to hear Hopes and Dreams now, although there's still this mysterious path to the ruins.

Day 21: Phisically-preparing myself; edgy to the core
Time spent: 1 hour and... 20 mins.?

Just in case.

So I went back to the hotel and bought some snacks there. I had 1044 Gold, so I could buy the "stake in the shape of Mettaton ('s face?)". Burgerpants sold out and he made it clear that he wouldn't put himself to do that again. "Okay..." I still bought some Starfeits (or whatever they're called), which was a big mistake at first and I'll shortly tell you why. I went to the dumpster-store once I misread B-pants' advice to "try to sell that to the girls". I went there, but they only gave me the Glamburger dialogue, so it wasn't worth it. I wanted to buy the "mysterious key", but I didn't have any money left. I needed to grind for some money, so I went back and forth to many points in Hotland, looking for enemies. I was close to dying a few times, but it was ultimately okay. Even then, I considered buying the cowboy hat and the gun, but then I quickly remembered about the oh, so powerful "temy armor". "Great, so I have a key, but I don't know where to use it". So before going back to the Temmie Village, I went to the hotel and spoke to the creepy-looking hand-instead-of-a-face attendant. She-- Ah, I mean, they said something about not having a key for myself, so if I wanted to get in again, I'd have to pay 200 G again. So that's what I did! But I tried my key to enter first and nothing happened. Once I payed my stance, I moved around the bed, playing to the rhythm of the catchy music until I got out of bed again.

I went back to Temmie Village, with low money (BIG mistake) and checked "temy armor". It was 750 G now. "Ugh... Not enough". So I backtracked to Hotland and grinded some more. Finally I went back to Temmie Village and bought the armor. It was... worth it, actually. It had a lot of nice characteristics. I quickly equipped it and went on my way.

I went to Snowdin to see if the key gave me access to Sans' room. It. Did. Not. I was disappointed, but at least Paps and Dyne were saying good-bye to me.

So I finally went back to the core, before the door of my next big encounter.

I'll take it.

---

(Part 2...) I entered the room and saw Mettaton. Suffice to say, I knew this wasn't going to be just any encounter. He told me he was sick of Alphys' predictable behavior, so he closed the door and I knew the thing was about to get real. Naturally, I entered battle.

He was not a pushover. I wanted to go further into battle but I somehow misinterpreted the bombs and thought that I had to shoot directly at them, without realizing they caused a lot of damage. The burn option didn't cause a thing, and I didn't understand the reference. Alphys intervened once more and helped me get him to turn around and press the switch on his back. So... I pressed it.

He turned into EDGY METTATON. I noticed the "rating" lines, which obviously meant that they would influence the match somehow. I noticed they were dropping, but even though I wanted to see what happened when I got them down to zero, I opted not to do it and so I went ahead and started Acting. It was a pretty dynamic and interesting match, which I liked, although it was somewhat hard. I died a couple of times, meaning that I had to go back and see the encounter again. Or did I?... I had the option to just cut to the chase and proceed to Edgy Mettaton, but I still selected the option that made me NOT skip it just to see what happened, and everything was on place like last time. I fired bullets at him from the get-go, but he bragged about his invulnerability. Finally I got to Edgy Mettaton again.

I Acted in many ways, seeing the many variables that were in the process of attacking him and making the views go higher or lower, one of which was eating certain foods. It was hard yet fun to shoot his heart, although a little creepy watching his limbs come off. I ate a couple of Glamburgers, which pleased the audience. Finally, after nearly dying and being at 8000+ viewers, I used the almighty Steak-in-the-shape-of-Mettaton's-face, which gave me a whopping total of 1400 points. Then I defeated him.

The calls started coming in. It was an emotional situation indeed. Mettaton decided to stay here, for his audience. When Alphys entered the room, I thought I was going to see a plot twist where I would battle her in her desperation, but fortunately no (I think that would've ruined her character, since she's so nice and reliable). But, she told me that it was not only necessary to have my soul to cross the barrier; a monster's soul was also necessary. I went back and saved, seeing the door unlocked again. I returned all the way to the lab, but it was actually closed (wow!).

I saved afterwards.

Day 22: Dear diary: I don't understand; darn it, snail; listen to our tale -- the Undertale
Time spent: Around 1 hour and 20 mins.

Before heading to the castle, I went back to use the Mystery Key. It was a long road indeed: The Core, the hotel, Hotland, the ride on the boat, and finally Waterfall. On the ride, I saw something that really caught my attention: "Tra la la. I heard the King has a favorite food". "Well, that's something to consider before entering battle". I went to the red house, used the key and entered. I started to read the diaries from left to right (the correct order!), and... I honestly didn't understand much. Well, except for one thing: The diary said something about the ghost considering to enter a body that he-- uh, they would look good in. My personal theory is that they went ahead and used Metatton's body; that would make sense considering the cat waifu's words saying that it was as if Metatton himself lived before his own creation by Alphys, or something like that. Anyway, I noticed that I couldn't go any farther than where the diaries were spread out (too bad, since I wanted to see the TV and stuff). I just realized that the "Blooky" guy they were talking about was Napstablook (I mean, I kind of knew it, but I forgot his name regardless up until now that I remembered it). The third ghost was the dummy for sure. Without anything more to see, I went out.

Then I went to the snail race just to see if I could win this time. I only had 44 Gold, and since I was definitely not going to use more money on my journey, I might as well just use the money here. Well... It wasn't worth it. The snail is literally way too slow to win even if "encouraged" a handful of times. "Eh... Whatever, I'm out of here".

After all of that, I went back to the Core and to the save point I was in earlier. I noticed it didn't say anything before being able to save; nothing about "something" filling me with determination or anything, so I knew this was about to get serious.

(Sorry, I have to stop here; part 2 tomorrow...)

Well the King's favorite food is something that has been named before but I am not sure if you have it in your inventory (or still have).

And there's a way to get money from the snail race but it's hard and not worth it.

(Part 2...)

I went ahead and there was a lot of silence. Everything was gray and white, and I swa a background that resembled a city. After that, I stumbled upon a garden, and then upon an extremely familiar house. A calm song started playing and I was in shock. Not in shock because of something bad, it was actually quite the opposite. Seeing the exact same house I was before with Toriel, but being able to somehow relive everything again was kind of a redeeming experience for not being able to actually go back to the Ruins. We have to remember that the very first section of the game is the one that struck me the most when I couldn't return to it, so seeing this was truly nostalgia-inducing indeed.

I saw a note attached to two chainlocks which told me about two keys located in two areas of the house, so I went to the kitchen first. "Wait! I don't wanna fight! Oh", it was just two Froggits telling me a story. I checked the whole living room and went to the kitchen. The music was still playing, and I was also experiencing something beautiful. So beautiful that it reminded me a lot of Terranigma's ending, although that ending was a hundred times more emotional than this was. I grabbed the key and went to the bedrooms' hallway. I saw a couple of monsters here and there, continuing the story, which was getting all the more interesting with each passing section. I saw many golden flowers, which obviously had to mean something. I entered both bedrooms, one of which was clearly the King's bedroom. Many hints pointed towards him not only inhabiting this house, but also being just recently here. I saw a curious trophy among other things. I also saw a mirror: "Despite everything, it's still you". This was also one of the things that struck me the most since it represented pretty well not only my journey here, but also several people's journey in real life. I grabbed the key and proceeded.

i saved before unlocking the chain, but a random thought crossed my mind: "Oh, I forgot! Maybe I had to visit Snowdin's door before going away! Oh, well". I also briefly thought that if the journey was going to end soon, Flowey was certainly showing some absence throughout the journey.

Once I went down the stairs, the story kept unfolding. Asriel --Toriel's son--, was murdered because of humans, leaving another scar in the monsters' heart. They made a reference to a bed of golden flowers, which was actually shown later in the game. I saw an elevator, which I then used to go back all the way to Snowdin to see if I could do something about that door. I entered the cave and tried to turn off the mushrooms in certain order. I kind of thought I was nailing it, since I heard something weird when I turned off the third mushroom, but it was probably just the background noise given that I tried different combinations and nothing else happened. Well, I reset the game and went back.

I saw the "Last Corridor": "Oh, I think this is the place where you fight Sans in Genocide". *sees Sans* "Wait! I don't mean to literallyfight you now!" He explained to me the actual meaning of "EXP" and "LOVE", where long story short, I didn't have to go through a fight with him at all. So I proceeded.

Save points were scattered every adjacent room from that point forward (and pretty much since I reached the area that led me to the castle). I reached a crossroads, so I entered up, but quickly got out since it was kind of obvious something was bound to happen here. So I went right and saw a lot of coffins at the end of the corridor, each one containing a colored heart. Maybe there were 6 souls, since mine was (appropriately) red, and it was empty. It read "Lily". Oh boy...

Finally, I reached Asgore's garden, and... He was a nice guy, just as the story told he was. He wanted to offer me tea, but he quickly realized who I was. "Whenever you're ready, come inside".

I saved there.

Asgore really is one of the best hyped characters in gaming.

Toriel said he would kill you and take your soul. Papyrus said he was a big, fuzzy goofball that everyone loved. Undyne said he could become a god and give hope to the monsters of the world.

They were all correct.

Playtime likely tomorrow.

Something I forgot to say is that I realized Asgore's voice is exactly the same as the one from the Game Over screen, as well as the voice that came to me while sleeping in Toriel's house. He knows something for sure and I want to know what it is.
