there has to be at least one other person on board 8 that liked boogiepop phantom, right? well they're actually adapting the novels now. looks pretty sweet. as someone who read at least 4 of the books I'm pretty hyped.

also I'm pretty sure Digi liked it so I can't be totally alone here...

there were a few things where I couldn't even guess what they were supposed to be, but I'm not sure if that's due to going into later novels or if it's because of my memory failing + things not looking exactly the same as I'd picture them in my head.

there was a girl in a schoolgirl outfit featured a few times that looked like it might have been minahoshi suiko. book 2 starts with her committing suicide but I could see her still being visually present for a lot of scenes after that due to who/what she is. and there's a scene of what looks like a girl jumping in front of a train? they might have replaced the roof jump with a train jump. I dunno.

I think one of the villains in the first novel had some kind of fire theme, but I might be confusing that with another book or I'm just fake "remembering" it because I saw the dude on fire here.

it's really cool. I ended up liking it more when I re-watched it the second and third times, both of those after I had read the books. similar to Lain it does come off as a somewhat bizarre and disjointed story but I think the reality is that it's actually a bit more straightforward. if you think of Boogiepop Phantom as an anthology it makes a lot more sense. each episode contains its own story, they generally range from good to great, and there's plenty of weird stuff that happens (especially when Boogiepop shows up)

anyway if you didn't know, that anime was created with input from the author but it takes place during the time between book 1 and book 2. so this new anime should be faithfully adapting at least the first few books (hopefully!), and will contain materials that are different and distinct from that older series.

ah I don't follow those topics much anymore, if at all. either way I'm hyped for this. the original was one of my favorites for quite some time and while that probably doesn't hold true anymore it's just because I've seen so much stuff at this point.
